Visiting the "High Noon" church filming location yesterday
We were in the old gold rush town of Sonora yesterday like every year and I finally drove up the road a ways to Tuolumne City to see the white church used in "High Noon". Parts of the movie were also filmed in the preserved gold rush town of Columbia, a really cool state park now. I liked the movie but it's not a top ten for me. I'm probably in the minority of western fans there. Movie locations, westerns especially, fascinate me.

High Noon was the true classic western and earned Gary Cooper an Academy Award. Gary Cooper was a great actor and this was his best movie. Add Grace Kelly at the peak of her career and what more could you ask for? Watch it again!
. . . besides I was named after him according to my father.

Here’s a local guy I like visiting the film locations for the movie. He points out an air conditioner in a window during the final showdown. We also passed a grocery store that was the robbery location from the early 70s Peter Fonda car chase caper “Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry”.

Certainly the subject of Cooper's best movie is subjective but, my choice would be Sargent York.
Of course, as a Tennessee native, I admit my prejudices relative to my choice.

We were in Tahoe back in the early 2000's and we wanted to go the Bonanza set but it was closed down to the public. We were highly disappointed. Beautiful area NoCal.

i live sort of close to Sonora. Lots of movies were shot in the gold rush towns here. Columbia is near Sonora, Angels Camp and Murphy's are close by. Spent a lot of years working there for Ma Bell.

High Noon. Best movie ever.
Twenty, twenty five years ago, dinner with my boss and several, ah, business associates, working for someone else. Topic is movies. I say, after a while, my fave is High Noon. Boss looks at me and says, "That's why you always think you are right!"
I think I must have been, in many ways, insufferable as a subordinate.
But, I'll add, as a subordinate or as a boss, I was always loyal. Take care of me and I'll take care of you. (Other way around, I ain't into forgiveness, up or down.)
