Model 66-8 Can't assemble hand into trigger

If you are holding the trigger in your left hand, looking at the rear of it, use a small flashlight to look inside and you'll see a cavity where the coil of the spring sits. Put the flashlight down and take the spring in your right hand and insert the short leg of the spring first, oriented to...

    500 mag notchy trigger

Sounds like the ratchets are too long. Once the cylinder stop locks the cylinder, the hand keeps trying to rotate the ratchets. The way to test this, open the cylinder all the way out, pull back on the cylinder release, and pull the trigger. If it's smooth all the way through it's a timing...

Whats your experience with S&W warranty

I have had nothing but positive experiences with them. They have sent me numerous small parts, for free, that I have messed up on various projects. I have sent two revolvers back and both were returned within two weeks. One of which, a 627, that I freely admitted was my fault was fixed...

I need some opinions on 45acp revolvers

This one started life as a 625 JM, but has had been modified to the point that the frame is about the only original piece on it. It will be the last gun I part with.

    442 problem....any suggestions

I experienced the exact same thing with a brand new 642-1 about a year ago. At best it was an eyesore; at worst it became exceptionally difficult to close the cylinder when it got dirty, and continued to worsen. I ultimately sold the gun because it was so unpleasant to shoot. If you want to...

    625 JM trigger replacement

Don't feel bad about going against Jerry's standards. For the last few years he has been shooting round guns with Hogue X-frame grips. As for the trigger, the new 929 was supposedly built by Jerry himself and unless my eyes deceive me it has a smooth face trigger. A serrated trigger is a...

should i LUBE my j frame?

I'm with the "take it all apart and clean it" crowd. I am also a believer in running a revolver "wet". I don't pour it in, but I'm liberal with it to say the least. This is advice from a few different revolver smiths and I have yet to have an issue. Too much grease will clog things up in a...

    Single action removal

I believe bobbing a J-frame hammer is one of the best modifications you can do. I don't usually remove the single action notch, as it doesn't affect anything, but it's easy to do. Here is an old thread with good pictures. File off the indicated notch and that's all it takes takes to make it DAO.

Is there a source for unbored X frame cylinders?

I would be very surprised if you could find one, but I want one as well. I want to take it in a different direction and make a 10 shot .32 caliber cylinder, on the x-frame. A barrel would need to be fabricated as well, but it would be an awesome competition setup!

    Let's See Those Dirty Guns!

That's just over 400 rounds worth that day if I remember correctly, and I had wiped the gun down a couple of times! I was given several cases of that particular ammo, the guy who passed it on couldn't stand it. I'm not averse to cleaning guns but that stuff is next level dirty. I took the...

    Let's See Those Dirty Guns!

Model 64 DAO shooting Black Hills reloaded rounds. Low recoil but hideously dirty.

Had to get it 625-8 JM

You made a great impulse buy! Mine started life as the same 625-8 JM, but I have done some work to it over the years. Lots of rounds and a gazillion dryfires, it will be the last gun I part with.

    info about my 627-2 44mag

Sounds like either S&W messed up (would be a rare gun) or a .44 barrel and cylinder were put on as an afterthought (which would be unique in its own way, but not necessarily valuable).

    WTB: Barrel only, 625 (.45 ACP) 6.5"

I am looking for a 6.5" or 6" barrel that will fit on a 625 chambered in .45 ACP. I am open to any barrel profile, finish, ported/non-ported, sight, etc. I would prefer a new barrel but would consider a used one as well depending on condition. Thank you!

    Model 10 K Frame Questions

The current model 10 does indeed have a frame mounted firing pin. S&W stopped putting them on the hammer across the board sometime in the 90's I believe, though it would vary between models as they used up the older ones during different production runs. As previously said, the model 10 was...
