I had a real badge and I hardly ever carried it. When I retired they thoughtfully sunk it into a block of lucite. Maybe I should carry that around and lob it at the cavalry when they show up.

We were required to wear ours on our belt next to our pistol, in case your shirt rode up and scared somebody. At least when they trapped mine in lucite, they added my five year increment service pins and a nice brass plaque. It’s pretty good sized. Too bulky to
lug around, but it would leave a mark if I chunked it at ya’ . . .

I don't carry my retirement badge or ID. I also just pay my traffic tickets and tell the officer who writes those, "Thank you" without telling him/her how important I used to be.

I have a miniature retired badge in a small badge wallet that I carry because it has my retired LEOSA ID, my state CCW, a couple business cards, and my emergency c-note. In 6 years, it has yet to be displayed to anyone, but I don’t want any confusion if I ever have to actually show it. . .

I have never used a badge in a non-official capacity to show somebody else how important I was or used to be, and I don’t really like those who do . . .

Thread Drift....... remember when folk had FOP licence plate "badges" .... IIRC civilians who donated got an oval one....... actual FOP members were round.

Dad was a member of FOP Lodge #1 in the Burgh in the late 1930s.

I have my badges and my Dad’s. Not for display. I do occasionally show a photocopy of my last ID to my friends. Mostly so they can see that I used to have hair, and we all get a laugh out of my 70’s era movie star mustache. It went well with my bell bottom pants and Miami Vice shoulder holster.

The state of Kansas issued me a CCW badge when I was a licensed PI. I can't see much use for them other than that or for bona fide security people.

How many actual LEOs active or retired think showing a Concealed Carry Permit badge if involved in any kind of defense shooting is a good idea.

I don't understand why someone would even buy one of those things.

It's the stupidest thing I've ever seen. If it were any good, it would be issued along with your permit. No county or state I'm aware of issues more than a card as a permit to carry a concealed weapon, so anything else is worthless.

With the majority here - a CCW badge is a bad idea - period. It makes you look like a “hot dog” - someone that has a permit for the “wow” factor rather then the intended purpose and showing a badge to anyone will give them the impression that some enforcement authority is attached to it and then you are impersonating.

Anyone wanting to carry a badge needs to be a cop. Or UNIFORMED security. To me and YMMV, someone who carries a gun and wants to wear a badge is making it clear that they want trouble or unearned prestige.

I carry my retired creds for LEOSA and nothing more. But not the badge. That sits in my safe with my other badges that I wore as a cop.

I just have mine all loose. They never did the lucite thing for me.

The Florida PBA still does that.

This is completely off subject, sort of, but here goes. As a residential contractor, I do a lot of framing and trim carpentry. Often, I will cut a board and fit it into place and it will stay in place without nails because the fit is tight. At that point I will look at my helper and say "Nails, we don't need no stinkin nails!" My helper laughs and asked where the saying came from. I heard the "badges" phrase on Blazing Saddles but did not know it was so famous.
