Just go info -- there is not going to be any new 9mm & 223 & 308 for a while.

All Foreign ammunition manufacturers have stopped all commercial production of ammunition and have switched to military supply mode. All of the European countries have placed massive orders for ammunition.

I do not know about US production but I suspect the same is true.

This also means there will be a shortage of components.

I’m not questioning the accuracy of your announcement but would like to know the source.

I’d suggest in any case whether fact or fantasy that folks better stock up even at today’s prices. In a year or two those that didn’t stockup will wish they did. Inflation and shortages will keep prices high and drive them higher.

Even at higher prices I’ve been increasing my stockpile of primers and powder and 22LR ammo. I’m old enough to have seen 22LR 50 round boxes go from 50 cents to $5 and even close to $10. I’ve seen primers go from a little over $1/100 to near $10/100 at dealer prices. I thought for a while we’d see prices come down and stay a while but I’m not so sure now.

If prices aren't coming down, and components are never coming back, then it is the end of the shooting sports. Not everyone has a 20 years supply. And the way things are heading, it is going to be an eternal shortage.

Gun control through shortage. They won after all.

I'd be curious to see the source on that as well. I've heard this particular rumor plenty of times before without it bearing fruit.

That said, we are definitely losing Russian ammo, and despite rumors that some of the companies are moving equipment out of the country even prior to the Ukraine invasion, that is really going to hurt the low end of the ammo market.

A "source" that I saw was last week all local shops seem to have got cleaned out, and told me their Distributors dried up on the little they were seeing also.

I'm believing it.

Then, there is little stuff like this:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Thank you for your business and for your continued support of American jobs and manufacturing. As we continue to see supply chain constraints and increases in our raw materials, we are increasing our pricing to help offset those rising costs,” the letter said. The price increases will go into effect on April 1 of 2022, and will apply to Vista’s CCI, Federal, Hevi–Shot, Remington, and SPEER ammunition sub-brands.
In addition, the company said that no primer orders will be accepted until further notice.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I laugh thinking about people who said some were going to choke on the ammo they bought, and they wouldn't buy till 9mm was back to 9 bucks a box.

Good luck with that!

I don't know what else to tell you. It's going to dry up again. Since last video in October, just a FEW things have come up..... and shooting season is right around the corner!

Just went down cellar to add some small and large pistol primers I found in a gun shop i recently visited in Lancaster Pa., to my hoard.
As near as I can figure roughly 12K. Box contains Large and small rifle in both standard and magnum, and large and small pistol in standard and magnum.
That doesn’t include 6 K in 209’s in a separate box.
Guess I’m good should the buggers attack.

One of your sources is an article from January 27th, 2013. Nine years ago.

Not a bad start. I'm glad to hear you have primers to load with. There are fewer loaders every day who have primers. Luckily I'm not one of them. I put in a good supply when things were good.

I would love to say I saw this extent of shortage coming. When primers started to rise in price instead of buying 1000 or 2000 as usual I bought 5000 when on sale or at a show. I did it to save money, not because I saw the extreme shortage coming. I did think there would be a shortage but thought it would be no worse than previous shortages. This one is a lot worse for many reasons IMO.

Additionally ammo has been very scarce and when available the prices are way high. I can't remember there being such a scarce amount of all types and shapes of ammo ever. No SD ammo, no range ammo, no rifle match ammo, no rifle hunting ammo and so on.

Hopefully things will get repaired and we can go back to buying what we need without taking a loan out lol.

I don't know about local stores since I haven't bought any locally for quite some time Almost all of my ammo purchases are made on line and there seems to be no real shortage of most popular calibers for the time being at least. I recently purchased CCI 9mm aluminum case for $14.99/50 with free shipping over $99.00 .
Not too terrible a price at present and I'm not sitting around waiting for the $10.00 a box 9mm to show up .
I don't know what's ahead as far as ammunition supplies are concerned but if I see any at a reasonable price now I am buying some.

Yes the sky is falling ! My LGS got in a whole pallet of foreign made
7.62x39. I don’t shoot that caliber so didn’t look at the price .

The end of the shooting sports?

I hope not. If we value those sports and hope to retain them, we need to be generous with newbies and particularly youth who through no fault of their own will find it hard to learn to shoot in today's climate.

I've got a little extra and if a kid needs some I'll gladly part with a reasonable amount to make it possible for them to learn to shoot.

If I remember correctly, I didn't pay for my first rifle nor for the ammo I shot.

Let's all keep this in mind while we bewail the fact that we only have X thousands of .22 rounds and such.

Be generous if you can!

Yes....excellent point !

Ammo has been available in common calibers for several months. If you didn't resupply because you were waiting for it to become "cheaper", and are still without sufficient stockage, I am really not sure what to say to you besides stop complaining. If you have no ammo because you "refuse to buy factory", are a handloader, but have no primers, I have the same sentiment.

There's a big difference from then to now. The reason for the ammo shortage was that manufacturing and distribution stopped for 18 months. They are running full bore right now. There is ammo everywhere. If you look around on line, you can find 9mm range ammo for about $16 a box. The LGS's around me are all getting under $20 a box. I know, it's not 9$ but a dollar isn't worth what it was two years ago. Primers are around also if you want to pay for them. You might not be able to buy cheap, bulk Javelin missiles for a while but Ukraine won't have a big affect of available ammo here in the US.
