NJ permits are good for 2 years. I'm due in June. You are only able to carry the handgun that you used in the initial qualification. The State required a second range qualification that had to be met by 12/23. Failure to do so would result in termination of license. I jumped through that hoop. My initial license cost me $300 between fees, qualifications, etc. Among other requirements, the renewal application fee is $200.
I rarely carry as most places in NJ are restricted. The primary reason I got my CCW was because it was my right. Pre Bruen, unless you were the Pope, CCW's were not issued to civilians since NJ was a "May Issue" State.
Well, they won. I'm not giving the State another penny for a right that is effectively restricted anyway. I can only hope that one day, this will change. Enjoy your freedoms and rights while you have them.

Places like NJ remind me that things here aren't as bad as they could be. Sorry to hear that your rights are so restricted. We're on the same track here (CO), but much cheaper. New restrictions enacted this year, but I haven't got details yet. At least we're a "shall issue" state, so far.

I moved from CA to TN a year ago; chances of cc permit in CA was a flip of the coin depending on which county you lived in (think red or blue - and even then it takes a lot of time). TN is a refreshing change. Have met several former NJ folks here in TN; come down and join us.

Geez! Here in Virginia there is no range re-qualification requirement, no going before a judge, and the fee in the county in which I reside was just reduced from the state maximum of $50 down to $30 and it's a 5 year permit.

You didn’t mention that the clerk of court must issue your permit within 45 days of your application unless you are found to be disqualified. In Virginia, my honorable discharge from military service is sufficient to show training in firearms safety.

NJ laws regarding firearms have "unintended consequences." When I lived there I carried "throwaways." No problems as long as you don't need to use it. The consequences getting caught are frightful but working in Newark as an "epidemiologist" for the NJ Dept of Health had greater consequences to consider. January will be 45 years since putting NJ in the rearview for sunny Florida.
PS, I would pay the $200 as it would help in a circumstance I related. Joe

You know how to get and keep your rights ... those running the show get elected ... start at the voting booth and work from there to get them ...
... Un-Elected .

My Dad told me to never follow / support any person / group that want to disarm you ... if they can't trust you with a firearm ... you can't trust them as a leader .

I spent a week in Paterson on a job 10 years ago. I’m not sure I could pack enough artillery to feel truly “safe” there😳. Spooky..

I did a few side jobs for a business that was doing contract work there. I always felt like I was in a foreign land, and under a microscope.
One of the scariest cities in America.

How are all the drug dealing gang bangers paying for their carry permits in New Jersey?

They don't pay income tax, so they've got money, not that they bother with permits.

The outfit I worked for at the time booked us into a motel in NJ. The doors appeared to have be opened by force more times than by keys. We moved across the line to Delaware in the morning.
