An Air Marshal I knew professionally lost 2 duty weapons over a 3 year period, one in a burglary of his vehicle and the other from his unlocked garage. He also left his issued Blackberry in the seat pocket when deplaning. Makes you wonder.

I was goofing around one day on the pier where I was stationed on an Army boat while enjoying sunny southeast Asia back in '70. A jeep came roaring down the pier, pulled up alongside where I was standing and both driver and brown bar lieutenant bailed out rushing down to the office at the end of the pier where our makeshift company area was. I looked at the jeep and young brown bar had left his web belt with canteen, medical pouch, holster and fully loaded 1911 and clip pouch slung over the back of his seat. I picked it up and walked into the welding shack, slid it behind some empty tanks, went back to where they sold cold Cokes for .50 a piece, popped a can and hung out. They never came in the shack, that was what we used to relocation.

Our local police chief had his gun stolen and he never even noticed. It was later used in a crime, and then traced back to the Chief who did not know it was missing, nor had reported it stolen!

Ahhhh. Chiefs don't need them. At least that seemed to be the attitude of the former chief here. Was in his office at the police station, when a lady drives into the parking lot, followed by a man in a truck who gets out with a rifle and starts shooting at her. His response? He hunkered down behind his desk and called 911.

Nothing new. Shortly after being sworn in the current Sheriff of Hamilton County had her issued department vehicle broken into while in her driveway. The thieves got her department issued AR.
