My LGS has a model 27 (no dash) S serial # that's absolutely beautiful. It has a shiny bore, tight action and beautiful shiny bluing. It also has an 8-3/8" barrel.
I've only got one S&W that looks that good, a M14-4 with 3 Ts.
The only other guns I've seen that look this good are in pictures I've seen on this forum.
I don't have a long tube S&W and thought one would feel very nose heavy, but holding this N frame did not feel that way and I'm interested.
The price tag is $1550.00 and it's gun only, no box or papers/tools. That's certainly no bargain, but I've bought a lot of guns from this store and the owner will give me a break for my "frequent flyer miles". I thought that the longer barreled guns usually had lesser resale value, but checking Gunbroker did not bear that out.
I wouldn't expect to pay less than $1000.00 and that would be fine with me if I could get it, but I doubt he'll go that low.
I know that without detailed pics a value can't really be estimated, but please tell me what you think.

George,
My only other question would be the grips. Most likely they would be diamond checkered targets with football cutout (not usually numbered). If not, a period-correct nice set of grips is gonna run close to $200.00.
Good luck!!

I am stating my personal opinion. I love the long barrels on the Model 27 due to the beautiful checking along the top of the frame and barrel. It is on all of them but so much more along the long tube. I have 2 of them. On most other revolvers, I prefer the shorter barrel configuration.

It it is as beautiful as rubiranch's example, I would be thrilled to get it for $1,400.00. Around here with sales tax at 10%, I would be happy to get it for less the sales tax.

I don't think the price is that out of line for what you describe. If you're looking for a 27 no dash with that barrel length, I'd buy it. If you're looking for bargains, I would pass.

I sold a stunning 99% M27-2 1973 long tube for 1250.00 shipped 2 months ago. Not 3T, just target grips, and no box. I probably could have gotten a bit more, but 1400 for a no dash is not too bad in the covid world. 10% sales tax, WOW!!

If you intend to keep it, over time, it will not be a problem paying the few extra bucks

Thirty years ago at a gun show I had a shooter grade nickel 8 3/8” Model 27 (don’t remember -2 or what) for $250 in my hands and passed on it. Next day when I came to my senses it was gone. Now I’m contemplating offering my 4” blues 29-2 with a tuned action in trade for a long nickel 27. If I do I’ll ask you folks here if that’s dumb or not. These guns can’t enter Cubafornia so chances are slim I’d find one anyway.
Even though $1500 is a lot of $$$, don’t make the mistake I made if you want it real bad.

If like most gunstores and pawnshops, they probably have no more than $500 in it, probably less. Take 12 $100 bills, lay them on the counter, and see if that moves them. Good luck. I would love to have a S&W 27 in any barrel length. I've had several 28's over the years but no 27's.

If plain-jane 28-2s are selling for $1100 (and they are right now), it stands to reason similar condition 27-2s will be more and early 27s more than that even. So if you can work down to $1200, that's a win in my book.

I've only been collecting for a little over 10 years, but within this limited window I've learned that "waiting until prices come down" doesn't work with S&W revolvers. Demand remains. It's not a style thing like how certain classic cars fluctuate wildly with generational changes.
