Hey Guys & Gals;
I didn't know where else to put this question but here goes;
Does anyone happen to have a grip size chart for Mustang grips? I got a pair yesterday that has a number 3 rubber stamped inside along with their logo/name. I can't tell by the cut at the top where it meets the frame what gun it might fit. It's a full coverage, wooden, finger groove style.
I tried a Google search but only came up with Mustang car charts.
Thanks;
Mike

Mike, you put this in the "S&W Revolvers: 1980 to the Present" Forum. I don't claim to be the most knowledgeable S&W collector out there but I have never heard of a S&W Mustang. To me, "Mustang" is a Colt trademark for a pocket .380, not a S&W anything.

Folks might see this thread, anyway, and the moderators might move it to the correct Forum, but since I'm seeing it just minutes after you posted it I figured I'd jump in and tell you this stuff.

:)

"Mustang" was an aftermarket grip company from the 1980's and maybe '90's. They produced both plastic and wooden grips.
I guess I'm too old to realize that we have younger members that weren't even here back then.
Sorry;
Mike

If you Google "mustang grip pictures" and scroll down a bit, you will discover a pair of Mustang grips stamped with a number 3 as yours are. I recently sold a couple of pairs of them and have one remaining, which is combat style, palm swell, finger-grooved, and is stamped with a 3. I have had no luck locating a size chart either - having tried my modest collection of older Shooter's Bibles, Numrich catalogs, Gun Digests, as well as Google searches. In addition to the "3" stamping, the pair that I have remaining is also marked CD, which might lead one to believe that they are for a Colt D Frame - not so, they fit Colt I and E frames. So much for that logic! Although I cannot help with a size chart, I did some checking on GB and discovered the following advertised Mustang grips (the number, the letters, and the gun(s) they allegedly fit):
1 SD S&W K,L square butt
3 OBF Ruger Super Blackhawk
2 ICD Colt I Frame
2 SDZ S&W K,L square butt
3 SE and SEZ S&W N Frame
3 OCA Colt D Frame
3 CDZ Colt I Frame square butt
1 SB S&W J Frame
Again, these are used grips that were advertised, so I cannot vouch for the complete accuracy of the gun designations.
Hope this helps you.

For sure I have a nice set of Mustang wooden finger grooved type grips on my Model 34 4'' nickel. Could be wrong but thought I got those grips about 1977.

thadheth;
Thank you for the research you did. I guess I need to hone my "internet search" skills!
I should have tried pictures the first time.
Because of the placement of the locating pin they tend to look like they would fit a Colt frame. I don't have any round butt Colts. The cut where it meets the frame at the top is unfamiliar to me also. Maybe "3" is a style and not a frame size?

I would agree that the locating pin placement is like a Colt (D frame, although, as I understand it, there are a couple of variations of the Colt D frame). And perhaps the 3 is a style designation. I'm stumped.

Mike, your grips fit a Charter Arms revolver. If you look at the backside of a set of factory CA grips, or a gripframe, you'll find the same square-shaped cutout at top and grip pin location.

BINGO, we have a winner. There is an impression in the wood that matches the pin in the frame behind the trigger.
Thanks to everyone who worked hard to help me out!!!! This forum and its members are awesome.

Mustang grips date back at least to the late sixties. I had a Bodyguard around 1967 or 1968 and bought a pair of Mustang grips for it at Long Beach Police Supply or Long Beach Uniform in LB, California. Rosewood, reasonably priced, excellent (!) fit to the hand. They were a bird's-head finger groove style. I also saw them for K frames, looked a little large, but I think they had more than one style.

Let me know if you're interested in selling them - they'd fit my Bulldog very nicely...

Those Mustang™ smooth combat type grips had the visual appeal of a 2x4, but on an I- or J-frame revolver were really nice to shoot with. I had one pair for my 2 pre-War 22 target revolvers (the old HFTs) but was talked out of them when I sold one of the revolvers to a friend. I sure do miss those grips!

Ancient post I know. But has anyone solved the mystery of the Mustang Grips marked CD (as well as 3) . I have 2 sets of these exact grips, and the internet has not gotten any smarter on this topic in the last 8 years.
