Owners of the new no-locks

I'm sure interested in the Retro #10. Mostly want to know about the fit and finish. Considering the reports about the UC model J frames I would have to closely examine a in stock model.

Yes. I have the new Model 36-11 and like it very much. It looks sharp. Shoots like a laser beam. So pleased that Smith & Wesson ditched the lock. I have ordered every other new lockless gun. Waiting on a 10, 19, both Mountain Guns, and the titanium UC. There's a lot to like here.

I think it would be cool if Smith & Wesson revived some of the old boxes. A vintage looking box would compliment the gun.

I just picked up my new Model 19 Classic No Lock. Feeler gauge showed .004" barrel/cylinder gap. I immediately took it to the range.

I fired 174 rounds in just a bit over an hour. 12 rounds were Magnums, 12 rounds were Federal "High Velocity" 158gr SWCHP .38 Special +P, and the rest were Speer Lawman 125gr TMJ .38 Special standard pressure.

Function was flawless. I was surprised at how accurate I was with it. The DA trigger is rather nice. I didn't shoot but two rounds in SA. Overall I really can't find anything to complain about. The cylinder doesn't spin when open as much as my older ones, not sure if that matters or not. It's a very nice looking revolver, and the newest Smith I've owned made after the lock was introduced (but this one being "no-lock"). My other newest Smith is a 625-7 Mountain Gun .45 Colt made in I think '99 or so.

How many rounds do y'all think before I can say I got "one of the good ones"? I'd like to vet it's reliability enough to trust for carry.

The new 10 is way too expensive since there are still some gorgeous original pencil barrel 10s out there for about half the new MSRP. These new 10s dont even have checkered stocks. Plus, the new bluing is nothing compared to what it was back in the day.

Agree.....But be glad they are out there to buy.

Call me weird, but out of all the new no-locks I'd be a buyer of the titanium 432UC and nothing else.

As has been noted above, there are nice older examples of the blued guns and even the 629MG readily available. A 686MG, not nearly as available, but with a 686-4+ in the safe I don't have a big itch to get one.

Make a new no-lock 327JM/PD, or any 627, or an less common caliber Mountain Gun, or really any "weird" N frame and I'll be in line.

Removing the lock is a good start, but the job is only half done. I fondled them at SHOT and was not sold. As mentioned above, you can buy a pre MIM/lock gun for less, which I prefer. That said, I did capitulate and by a 386PD because they never came without a lock. My lock-induced heartburn was mitigated by immediately hiding the defect behind a specially made thumb latch. I am surviving. :)

I inherited a gun with the lock. I pored super glue in it and sealed it with nail polish.

Shoot at least 200 rounds of your carry ammo. If it fires flawlessly, you should be good to go.

It’s a model 19. Don’t shoot 125 gr 357 through it. Lol
