Can someone tell me about this revolver?

I have one of these. My dad had it built in the 70's. He had a gunsmith over in Hampton, Va do it. Have to ask him who it was but it may have been Mario Ruffino. He traded it to me over 10 years ago for something I had that he wanted (I don't even remember what it was now). I've always...

Buy a new Taurus Model 85 for $219?

My first revolver purchase after turning 21 was an 85. I shot it quite a bit (didn't keep track of the round count but owned it for 5 years). I shouldn't have traded it away but there was another gun that called my name and I had picked up a S&W 640 in the meantime. Several years ago, I...

    Sigma 357V

I have one of these. Fairly enjoyable at the range. A year or so after I got it (it was NIB, but the dealer had it a looooooooong time), it developed a problem with the mag release. I sent it back to S&W and had it back in my hands within 10 business days. On the work order, they specified...

Never ever complain about the trigger on the Sigma!!!

I have 2 Sigmas. I've shot my 9VE quite a bit. My friends think it's cool that I can crush walnuts between the tips of my trigger finger and thumb. Just kidding. Sigma doesn't bother me, never has. This is largely due to my father insisting that I learn to shoot DA revolvers properly...

    6506.

Me too. Disappointed to see that there wasn't a 6506. I learned along time ago that there was an era when S&W had so many different models going, even they didn't seem to be able to keep track of them. So, with 3rd generation guns, I never say "never was."

Blind pig + sometimes = Acorn (1026) Photo add

I remember seeing some 1026 VASP turn-ins on Gunbroker. I always thought that they issued the 1076, and they may have, but it appears some 1026s made it into the inventory as well.

    older 6904 holsters

I see you are in NC. How close are you to Hampton Roads (specifically Portsmouth, VA)? There is a one man gig called Backwoods Leather. He makes very nice holsters at an excellent value (IOW, they're inexpensive, but high quality). Anyway, this guy has the molds. I know b/c I have several...

    Sigma Plastic thingy ques

Glock owners pay extra for this feature. It's one of the most popular accessories to fill that hole in the backstrap behind the magwell. S&W sends it along free with purchase of the gun.

    Brushed stainless Sigmas

Not that big a deal unless they were stupid enough to polish the top of the slide. Personally, I prefer the no nonsense matte finish of the factory standard. If I want a work of art, I'll commission a custom 1911 or an engraved sterling silver plate Colt Single Action Army.

    model# 357W

Never heard of that one. I have a 357V, which is not based on the current E-model guns. From what I've read, this was never a catalog offering and was effectively produced for less than 6 months. I guess you could call it a soft introduction that did so poorly that S&W discontinued it before...

Have you seen a S&W 1911 with grim reaper grips?

I would think this would draw the wrong sort of attention. I doubt they're factory.

Locks Will Be Phased Out Says S&W!!

They'll get no argument from this S&W fan. I wonder what the S&W haters will focus on now.

    model 457 Hogue grips

I don't normally care for sticky rubber on a carry gun, but the factory delrin never feels right for the 45s and 10mms. Hogues add a bit of hand-filling to make it just right.

can the 4506 handle +P ammo?

Far as I know there are no SAAMI specs on any +P+ loading for any caliber. It's just loaded to a pressure beyond +P. How much so is up to the manufacturer.

can the 4506 handle +P ammo?

Of course, I can't say it with the weight of S&W policy, but I'm confident your average 4506 will take a steady diet of +Ps longer than you can. Provided, of course, you change out the recoil spring regularly (it's the singlemost important thing you can do to prolong a gun's service life)...

    quick sigma help please !

It was pretty much the same with my problem with my XD and the handloads it hated. I bought a case gauge before using any more of the ammo and found the OAL to be just a tad (didn't measure it, but probably a couple millimeters) too long. I sorted out the 500 or so rounds I had left and...

So, what were you using in it? Was it a live round or just a stuck case?

    quick sigma help please !

Get a flashlight, point the gun at a mirror and angle the flashlight to shine the reflected light down the barrel. If you see copper, then you know (I'm assuming you were using jacketed ammo - lead is a little more difficult to distinguish from simply looking down at a fired case). Oh, and...

    quick sigma help please !

OK, do you know for sure that the last round before the jam fired and the bullet exited the barrel? IOW, is it possible there is a previous bullet lodged in the barrel? Is the slide fully in battery? Is this factory or reloaded ammo? I had this same thing happen with an XD and turned out the...
