I have the 4 inch 10 shot, like it very much. I compared it with a 6 inch before I bought, and found the 6 inch a tad front heavy.

Another vote for the 642 no lock, I am very happy with mine, especially after I had Marc Morganti tune and port it. I also am really happy with my Mika holster, best I have found for the purpose.

I had been looking for a nice Model 10 bull barrel for a long time, rare to find ones in good shape here in California in my experience. Really happy to find one a few months back, turned into my Christmas present. Model 10-6 4 inch bull barrel, with wide target hammer but smooth wide trigger...

You will not regret getting either one. I have a 642 that I am extremely happy with, it is an excellent carry gun.

Good move. Gold Dots are my choice for my 642; I shoot a lot of it through it and it works very well.

I am also a big fan of Dave's speed loader, I have one for my 617 along with a loading block and it works great.

Bring plenty of ammo...first time I took mine out I went through a LOT!

I found a 617 4 inch 10 shot a few months back in Florida and had that baby shipped to me in California quick time. One of the most fun guns I have ever had, hands down. Worth every penny I paid for it and gains value in my eyes every time I shoot it.

This is my 642 that Marc tweaked for me, I flat love this little shooter. Smooth, accurate, gets the job done. I shoot Gold Dot +P in it.

I would do my best to find someone local, shipping is so darn expensive now. Last time I shipped a handgun it was about $60.00 each way.

I like them both, but have a 642. Since I had it ported I don't plan on too much in the pocket shooting, but if need be so be it...I'll keep the band aids handy!

I bought a 617-6, super clean with docs, lock, and box for $525 shipped but it took a while to find it. They seem to be very popular, and if I wanted to sell it I could easily get more than what I paid from what I see they are selling for here in California.
