According to my database, your gun most likely shipped May 1944. However, only a letter of authenticity would tell you for sure.

After looking more closely at the gun, I realized the inside of the frame has horizontal machine marks (you can see them in the pic), so apparently they didn’t see the need to polish out the external machine marks since they were going to machine the grooves anyway. Therefore it gives it a...

This is a pic of the blackstrap on my Model 15 no dash, approximately 4/61. Apparently it was part of the method of machining the grooves into the front and back strap of the frame. The rib, however does not look the same.

Even though you are not interested in it, you should get it from her and try to sell it for her, so she doesn't get screwed. I think a realistic value would be $500 - $550, from an individual. JMHO

Seems to have been a common practice, back in the day. Retired W4 has a couple of sets of them. Look and feel great!

According to my database, most likely shipped Jan 1943, in the same serial number range as U.S. Navy marked guns.
