    How bad can Marlin be?

Belay my last, it seems in 2012 they introduced a .45-70. I'll have to look into that one.

    How bad can Marlin be?

Can't get past the zinc castings on the .22's and they don't make any of the larger calibers like .35 Remington, .444, .45-70, .375 Winchester etc.

    How bad can Marlin be?

Makes you wonder if the rumor about George Soros owning them is really true, and this is how they are going to kill the American Firearms industry, one substandard gun at a time. They are off to a good start.

    How bad can Marlin be?

I personally refuse to buy any of the post Remington Marlins. They really are sub standard when compared to the older Marlins. IMO the worst thing to happen in the firearms industry is the consolidation that took place when "Freedom" Group bought Marlin, Bushmaster, etc., etc. The quality in...

Town of North fork by Yosemite.

It's been a few years since I was in that area, and the last time I used a Navy helicopter to pull a guy off of Half Dome. If you haven't been up to Tuolumne Meadows and Tioga Pass, I do recommend them, but during the week as the public is less numerous then. Good fishing in the streams up...

Am I a hoarder or am I addicted and need help

    No, you need more magazines.

Battle of Savo Island and the Kirishima

I don't believe that I said or implied that FDR "...orchestrated a whooping defeat at Pear Harbor...". I said that there was a good argument to be made that his embargo of strategic commodities was designed to force the Japanese into making war on its main enemy in the Pacific, the United...

Battle of Savo Island and the Kirishima

Ain't that the truth. One of my (then) teenaged nephews was surprised to learn that we had ever fought the Japanese. Public indoctrination strikes again.

Battle of Savo Island and the Kirishima

I don't know about that. There's a very good argument to be made that FDR maneuvered the Japanese into an attack through his use of embargoes on steel, oil, and other strategic commodities. Since the Japanese were part of the Axis, the likelihood of Germany coming to the aid of their ally Japan...

    I got a new Kubota

Yep, Kubota makes an excellent tractor. I have an L4400 with FEL, bucket, forks, 6' disc, 6' Landpride bush hog, and a Leinbach PHD. I NEED a two bottom plow and a tiller, but will have to wait awhile on the latter. Great reliable machines. Give you joy of your purchase, use it well.

Battle of Savo Island and the Kirishima

I don't think the Japanese Type 97 Chi-Ha was anything like a PzKw Mk IIIb or IV, much less a Tiger, especially when the thickest armor was 26mm on the sides of the turret, so it's no surprise that the Stuart was effective in the Pacific. The later versions of the Type 97 had a 46mm main gun...

Battle of Savo Island and the Kirishima

From what I read in Hornfischer's book, it was hell for both sides. BTW, it was Adm. Lee who was OIC during the Second Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, where radar was used to great effect and the "Kurishima" was sunk. ADM Callaghan was killed in an earlier action called the Cruiser Night...

    Land Line Telephone

Except that cable internet doesn't work when the power goes out at the street. Landline phones work no matter what the power situation is in the house or the street. If reliability in emergencies is the goal, the landline beats either VOIP or a cell any day, as does the quality of what you hear...

Battle of Savo Island and the Kirishima

That's true. Hornfischer's book is a great read for those interested in the surface naval war in and around Guadalcanal.

    CMP Garands

I went to the store in Anniston and purchased a Service Grade Special for $795 two years ago. It turned out that it was a book matched rifle with a CMP stock. If I could find a Springfield Armory stock with the correct inspectors cartouche it would be a collector grade rifle. Since the panic...

    The U.S. M6 Survival gun...an interesting piece

Ahh, combination guns, one of my favorites. I have a few in various calibers, and my favorite is a Valmet 512 in 12GA/.30-06. I purchased the entire firearm as a set. 12/12, .30-06/.30-06, 9.3x74R/9.3x74R, and the aforementioned combo. If I ever get to Africa, I will definitely pack that gun. I...

    777 crash at SFO

Yes, I was a Navy pilot for 11 years ACDU and four in the Reserves. We love TN too, and were very happy to move here. I went to school here and always wanted to come back, and decided that it was time. My better half is from FL, and we lived there for quite a few years. Neither of us miss it...

    777 crash at SFO

Thanks Billy. All that I'm asking is that everyone wait until the facts available have all been investigated until blame is laid. It very well could have been pilot error, but until all is known and investigated, I am loathe to call it such.

    The logic for buying gold/silver?

They still are. Before you belittle that theory, I suggest reading this: Gold suppression is public policy and public record, not 'conspiracy theory' | Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee There is documentation and evidence that central banks, in particular the Federal Reserve, are indeed...

    777 crash at SFO

Lots of reasons to be "significantly below target airspeed" that have nothing to do with pilot proficiency. This a/c has had problems in the past with engine rollbacks on final due to fuel icing after long, high altitude overseas flights. The left seater was a Captain with plenty of time in...
