Solving dead trigger with parts replacement

Yes, it was working before the Apex kit and I did adjust the trigger bar loop without success. Spoke with Apex at the time, but even with their guidance I could never eliminate the problem. My time is very limited, but if nothing pops up in this thread I still have my armorers block and go to...

Solving dead trigger with parts replacement

I have a 3+ year old M&P 40 with a dead trigger. I no longer shoot this handgun since wife and I got seriously into steel challenge with our 9mm 1911s, but I want to get this running. I had installed an Apex kit back then and did try to get it running right using the commonly accepted tweaks...

Can you add a magazine disconnect parts to a Shield

I'm sure someone on this forum who has removed their Shield mag disconnect would be glade to send you the parts (lever and spring).

new guy, have 4 m&p's, can i swap out mag safety for non out of matching guns?

Buy a spring from SpeedShooterSpecialities which is used in place of the mag safety and spring currently in the one gun. That operation is a breeze. Unless you're equipped with small dexterous hands you may find putting the mag safety and its spring in another gun a bear. Been there done that.

M&P40 Hold and POI with Dawson Sights?

    Couldn't agree more.

M&P40 Hold and POI with Dawson Sights?

I'm surprised that the night sights would differ so greatly from stock. We're only talking about 1" of ballistic drop over 25 yards and .010" variation in sight height for a 6.5" sight radius is slightly more than an inch at 25 yards. I measured the Dawson sights and the front/rear...

M&P40 Hold and POI with Dawson Sights?

I think it's worth and explanation, setting aside my original post which may well be related to sight picture, trigger pull, etc. Imagine setting a target at 25 yards with a handgun on a bench rest. Assume POA = POI; the gun is proper sighted for 25 yards. Now without changing the alignment...

M&P40 Hold and POI with Dawson Sights?

I'm not sure this makes sense. If the POI is several inches low at, let's say, 7 yards how can the POI be dead on at 25 yards? The bullet should continue to drop as range increases. My gun is shooting low at these shorter distances and definitely low(er) at a greater distance. I'll post my...

M&P40 Hold and POI with Dawson Sights?

I recently put on Dawson sights: .245" fixed rear and .180" FO front as recommended by Dawson. The gun appears to shoot 2-3" low at several yards. I'm going to the range on Friday to nail this down using my stock sight 40 and the Dawson-equipped 40, but looking at some old threads there is some...

Sight jump left-to-right when dry firing

I "solved" my problem by swapping slides on my two 40 cal. The better trigger (short reset, no over-travel) now hosts the slide equipped with Dawson sights. This frame has a 5lb/10oz trigger pull so I'm going to put in an Apex competition spring kit which may reduce that by a pound or so. I...

Mag safety removed by previous owner? Mag safety spring broken?

    M&P9FS sighting difficulties.

We have four M&P and using the mark 1 eyeball to center front and rear sights would do better than 2" at 7 yards. Something is not right.

    Apex says "Clean your gun"!

I didn't interpret the gunsmith's comment as having anything to do with function; he probably has OCD. He probably wanted the internals cleaner so he could look for defects, etc. I'm very pleased with how quickly Apex responded and in no way fault their DCAEK with this very minor difference in...

    Apex says "Clean your gun"!

Given I installed the DCAEK into four M&Ps and the excellent reputation of of Apex I'm inclined to believe that S&W manufacturing variability caused this one frame example to exceed the parameters for which the DCAEK was designed. The gun functions well after thousands of rounds. The...

    Apex says "Clean your gun"!

Apex was extremely helpful. My interpretation of what the gunsmith "said" (I didn't speak with him directly) was that they have seen a range of over-travel on M&P with their kits installed. One of my M&P 40s just happens to be at one end of the scale. As soon as I can buy a "S" trigger bar...

    Apex says "Clean your gun"!

In fairness to Apex they needed the pictures to diagnose my problem and asked that the "gun" be cleaned. It just didn't occur to me to do a more thorough cleaning once I had things disassembled. A good learning experience all the way around; Apex provided some pictures illustrating how to...

    A few questions about S&W MP9

S&W must sell a boatload of FS M&Ps. Folks with problems invariable raise them on forums such as this one. Sometimes the problems are real, sometimes owner-induced. Unless there is a barrage of reinforcing posts to a problem reporting thread I'd be wary of drawing conclusions from such...

    Apex says "Clean your gun"!

Apex has been helping with identifying the cause of excess over-travel on my m&P40. They have been very responsive, but the final conclusion regarding my DCAEK-equipped 40 is manufacturing variability. I already have the trigger loop almost completely closed down and all parts are correctly...

    Target Distance for a Newbie?

Is this your first handgun? Is it a range "toy" or self/home defense tool? A good instructor will save you tons of ammo and greatly increase your enjoyment of your new handgun. Check with local gun stores and/or ranges to get recommendations on instructors. Discuss your goals with the ones...

Sight jump left-to-right when dry firing

We have four full-size M&P all with Apex DCAEK installed. All have about a 5 lb trigger pull. The gun with which I'm experiencing an issue has the stock trigger spring, but so do two of our other M&P. These are all recent acquisitions over the last year or so. When I dry fire the three of...
