You want to take pics of yourself commiting a felony? :(

It is BS and it can be a hassle, but some places will try charge you with a version of "intent" if you have a short barrel upper and and "unwed" lower in the same household.

Actually swapping the parts to make a SBR, then taking photos of it?

Naaah.

Thanks for all your help. I wasnt aware it would be such a big deal just thought it woul look cool. I have a couple of other questions because I am unclear on the law because I have seen pistols with stocks and fore grips usually glocks is that illegal and at a gun show last weekend I check out several sbr and even held/in my possession one is that illegal and my lgs had a test drive deal where I even shot on is that illegal? Thanks for your help I don't want to get a felony.

Technically speaking any firearm with a barrel less than 16" and a shoulder stock or a vertical forward grip requires the Short Barrel Rifle paperwork.

There is some debate around the Magpul angled forward grip because it is not a vertical grip. The ATF have written letters to say it is legal. But if you want to do it write to them yourself and get your own letter.

At a gunshow, holding someone else's illegal SBR can't be illegal for you. It's the owner who will get into the trouble.

Those might have been perfectly legal registered SBR's though. Or they might not have been.

Not a trap searched forum found older thread on it. It can be done legally if you want to spend the $$ on a stamp Thanks for clearing this up.

It would look cool. That's why the government made it such a hassle (PITA) to do it legally. :)

From personal experience, I have found three ways to play with really cool firearm/weapons:

1. Join the military.
2. Become a cop.
3. Become filthy rich and buy your own (and get the tax stamp to go with it).

I've had to settle for 2 out of 3.

The trap part was you having both in the house and being tempted to do it without a stamp.

My stamp will be home very soon. Cant wait.

I think a couple of us told you that at the start of the thread. :)

You do not have to be "filthy" rich (unless you plan on buying an MG), but for SBR's, SBS's and suppressors it is not that big of a hassle, just a couple of easy to fill out forms. If you go the individual route, you can get your pics done the next time you go to WalMart or Walgreens and you could get the fingerprints done while waiting on the CLEO to signoff. If you go the Trust route you can skip the pics and fingerprints. The $200 tax and the 6 month wait sucks, but it is worth it in the end (at least it was to me). YMMV

I'd be cautious about just taking a picture, but remember, they have to prove that picture was taken in the US ;)

Just don't take it with your nice geo-tagged and time-stamped smartphone :D. Take a polaroid of it and scan it in lol

Yes. The uppers and lowers for the pistol and rifle are the same.

Here is a picture from the net.
