Finally got to shoot my new 9mm Shield, today

the dad-burn, little white dot on the front sight fell out, while firing the first magazine through it

anybody, else?

if so -- what's the best fix?

....after market sights?

Seems to be a common trend with the M&P line, as I've seen several posts concerning this. A simple fix really, white paint & a toothpick or small brush. Simple fix... yes, but aggravating & unnecessary, come on S&W, get better paint, or something.

Model paint works fine, but you can put anything/color you like.

The best fix? Simple. Send it back for warranty work. White dot fell off my M&P9c several weeks after i bought it. ropped it off at FedEx (free shipping) on a particular day, and I think I got it back with a new front sight (and they threw in another mag with pinky extension for the heck of it), in 7 days.

Great customer support. Use it.

A lady over on rimfirecentral.com posted this. She said it works great on her EDC. Lure & Jig Finish in GLOW.

On the Nitesiters I heard some other talk of them on the neg side. So... I got Glonation paint. I like it & it works for me. Here's a link & a pic of my Shield.

Not sure how a glow in the dark paint is useful for a gun that is going to be hidden under a shirt or jacket. I'm sure it can be charged overnight or quickly before you go out but how long does it really last. No substitute for good old tritium.

Luminous paint is useless on a carry or HD weapon because it needs to be charged right at the moment it's needed. I'm not even sure it's useful on a range gun.

Both above posts are true nothing beats pure nite sights, but if you like green sights, (which I do) and can't afford the other right at the moment, then the paint is a cheap alternative. I at some point want to upgrade, either to a laser, or TFO sights, perhaps both.

I am waiting on my fourth front sight for my M&P 9c from S&W and mine are Night sights. I am determined that S&W is going to give me what I paid for. The pistol is great otherwise! They have a real problem with this.

So your front night sight fell out 4 times  I agree that's totally unacceptable. Their glue or whatever is failing. This needs to be addressed by upper management.

I had the same issue with my front sight falling out. The first was my M&P 9mm full-size, which only lasted two trips to the range. The second was my Shield which only lasted 28 rounds before it fell off. Hoping they will replace it while it's back having the magazine drop, problem fixed.

Hopefully soon the sight manufacturers will have a sight made specifically for the Shield. My preference is Meprolight Tru Dots.

bought a used m&p 45 compact, first time cleaning the gun the front sight fell out first time cleaning the gun, oh well some hobby paint from walmart and good to go. i think the white dots falling out is due to some kind of oil or grease on the part before painting. an M&p Vtac is on my want list now

each of my front sights have come out on all 3 of mine. ive gotten used to painting them myself. i use bright white touch up paint from the auto parts store. then cover it with the clear coat finish. looks wonderful and hasnt been affected by any solvent to date.

I have seven M&P's and NEVER had a sight dot fall out. What you cleaning them with ???

just broke it down and wiped with old wife beater t-shirt -- 1st time at the range with it

-- e-mailed S&W, and got a pretty quick reply that said it was white paint, nothing special, and i could send it back or paint it myself..
