Bodyguard Magazine Drops
Hey guys and gals. I have been experiencing magazine drops out of my bodyguard 380 while shooting. The gun is only a few months old, and it started after only a few hundred rounds. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I contacted S&W, and I am sure it will have to be sent it. Really upsetting, I really like the gun.

Like gd56 says, see if your grip is causing this. If not, shoot it one handed which eliminates any off hand/grip issues. If it still drops, call S&W and send it to them. My Shield 45 did this to me last week. Called S&W and they told me to send it to them. CS rep said it seemed like a slide stop or a mag catch issue.

I am thinking maybe its the pinky extensions I have on there. I thought it wasn't, but now I think it might be. Headed to the range in a bit with 100 rounds, no extensions. This should narrow it down anyway. Frustrating, I love the gun otherwise.

It's the gun, not the shooter. They are replacing mine. Bad design they said.

Mine has been back home twice. At 200 rounds they replaced the grip body, I would assume the new grip body had a new mag catch, but who knows. At 550 rounds it went back again. this time they replaced the mag catch. It seems do be worse with some brands of ammo and still drops the mag but not as bad.
I'm at 700 rounds now mainly trying to find something it likes. The last 100 rounds have been PPU 94 gr jacked hollow points without a drop so I'm sticking with that.
And yes I did make sure I wasn't hitting the release while shooting and that my grip was good before I sent it back the first time.
Thing is I really like the Bodyguard. I also have a Taurus TCP & a RM380. The Remington is the only one that has been 100%. I really want to trust the Bodyguard as I really like the way it shoots, but now when I stick something in my pocket it's my 442.

There have been several reports of broken mag releases with the Bodyguards due to the mags catching when being inserted. Here's a quick mod that I think is a must for all Bodyguard mags. The blunt corner that contacts the plastic mag release needs a radius and polish so it won't catch and bind. Although my Shield 9 and 45 didn't have this issue, I did the same mod to those mags as well.

I trust my Bodyguard 100%. No issues as far as I'm concerned.

I bought a BG, and sold it without ever firing it. Abysmal trigger, only pistol I ever had where you had to push the magazine release partway in to insert a magazine. I bought a Ruger Custom LCP. Shoots great, good trigger, no problems inserting a magazine. Almost all of my collection are S&W handguns, but they dropped the ball on this one.

Hopefully the next gen BG will have a heel magazine catch. I have accidentally activated the magazine release a few times whilst carrying and shooting. I think the button needs to be more recessed or needs a stronger spring.
