What does the number 047 engraved inside my new 442's yoke when I open the cylinder mean? Thanks.

Thanks s&wchad. Funny because on another S&W revolver I have, (mid '90's), the model number is engraved there.

Gebe,

Could the number be 042? Is the finish shiney, or matte?

Best,
Gary

On a lot of these newer S&W's with the scratchy dot style numbering, an assembly number is on the yoke. The model number is on the frame in the yoke cut, just below the serial number. Maybe this picture of a Model 342 will help clarify what number we're talking about.
