10 round Shield 9...is it possible..in the future?

I would expect that a large percentage of the sales of these smaller pistols are to new gun owners. Many of these first time purchasers will be familiar with the name S&W but may not have ever heard of Sig. But, if they have heard of the Sig and read the online reviews, they'll begin to see the recall issues on the Sig. Then factor in the cost difference between the two and it becomes an easy call for the first time buyer.

S&W could troll SIG by taking the 9mm Shield and just create a new frame that takes the P365 10 round mag, maybe call it the Shield X, same price as the regular Shield and then come out with a backward compatible (to the 365) mag and sell it for $20. BURN!

I kinda (lot's) like the way you think....Ever thought about applying at S&W for a position in the That's a Great Idea Department......:D

Ok....here we go!!!! I'm not too much into long discussions but this one hits home.

I think sig hit a niche that has been it there for soooo long. right or wrong with the 365 right now, somebody out there addressed it.

1st. Funflyer, that is exactly why I sold my G43. I've been shooting for work (Army) for a while. I loved my G43, never an issue, and let a fellow shooter at the range try it since he was thinking of buying it ...sure as s&%t he limpwristed it on the first round and got a FTE...he ended up buying the shield (great choice). I would never want my wife to pick it up in an emergency and have the same result..so Bluff: all guns are as reliable as. The shooter that handles them.

Now..let me get to my point...I've been going around for a while looking at a compromise for CCW that makes sense. Forget the M2.0 discussion, yes it is nice (I have one and love it) but it just replaced my G19 in the winter. I have/had the G27 (my bad) M&P40c, shield, G43, LC9s, even the Taurus PT111 G2.

Still, not completely satisfied and alternating with the shield(with magguts).

Too long of a monologue to say...I commend sig for hitting the spot in the middle. Even I they have to make some improvements. I will buy it and be a beta tester gladly, when I can find the thing in stock.

I did not say 10 was the standard....but 10 in that size concealable handgun will be a highly sought after product.

Only if it will run reliably, which has yet to be demonstrated. The Kel-Tec P11 holds 10 rounds and is much smaller and lighter than my Glock 26, but I've never chosen the former over the latter. Shootability matters as well.

If you have an eight round mag w/a round chambered that's nine rounds. How much more effective would one or two rounds be?

I chose the Shield over the G43 for an extra round and still always wished the Shield was smaller. The shootability argument went to the Shield for me because it is softer shooting. Practice overcomes that though.

Still, I want to see the P365 and would be tempted to buy early.

Seems to me the competition for the P365 is the Glock 26.

I personally would do a shield +2 magguts in the factory 8 rounder than either the P365 or G26.

Couldn't S&W use the Magguts as inspiration and make a factory magazine that holds 10 rounds?

It seems to me if the current 8 round magazine can be modified to hold 10, that they could just make a factory made 10 round magazine. Problem solved without redesigning a fantastic pistol.

Probably some patent or copywrite concerns in doing that.......I'm certain Magguts protected their spring design.

Actually with the magguts +2 the 7 becomes 10 with one in the chamber but I just don't know if I trust that Z spring concept...????????? but yes that would give you 10 plus a quarter of an inch on the length.

Vote for this. I have 3 factory 8 rd extended to 10 rd. From the top of the slide to bottom of the magazine it is exactly 5" and provides the extra pinky room the large hand people need.

You are correct....the reliability of the 365 for me at least is a year away...They have to show that all the known (and unknown) problems (feeding, battery, broken firing pins, slide and barrel damage and failure to lock back on empty slide) have been corrected...

I figure that will take 9 to 12 months once they re-release the gun. Still can't figure out why people rush to buy a new technology on day1......

I didn't mean copy Magguts design. I just think if a factory magazine can be modified to take 10 rounds, then it could be redesigned from the ground up to take ten rounds.

Yeah, I have MagGuts in my Shield for 10+1. I like the idea of the P365, but I'm not sure I could shoot it well. It took me forever to get decent with the Shield.

Any idea's anyone.
Will S&W even try to compete with the Sig P365 or not?

Would love to see a 10 round Shield but do not know if S&W has the stomach or the corporate $$$$$$$ to spend to stay competitive.......

Thoughts anyone..??????
Maybe the better question might be how can Sig "stay competitive" with their latest two flagship pistols being recalled right out of the gate. Let's face it; considering their last train wreck with the 320, and now what appears to be another mess with the 365, I think Sig is the one that better find some "stomach and corporate $$$$" - right?

This assumes that first time buyers do more research than just walking into a gun store and saying, "Oooohh, that one's cute."

Sig lost my trust in their American manufacturing years ago when they released their 556 series rifles in 5.56, 7.62x39 and the companion .22 rifle. I bought all three based on Sig reputation. Two went back under warranty—one twice, and the .22 required upgraded parts sent to me for installation to get it reliable. *****.

Their latest SNAFUs have done nothing to convince me Sig is worth trusting again. Their MPX new release also had problems. Ridiculous.

The S&W Shield also had a few teething problems, granted, but they have been been dealt with successfully and quickly. Sig, the late comer to popular modern compact pistols, has a very very long way to go to be catch up to and be competitive with S&W and Glock.

IMO SIG is now a second tier manufacturer. Reliability is reality #1 for a new gun. They are chasing the dollars rather than quality. Their Romeo red dot sight is a lightweight, cheap piece of **** compared to many other RDS on the market. SIG keeps making mistakes. I will not buy from them. A 100% recall and an announced 60-90 day hold on shipments is a direct admission of their fallibility.
