15-22 Accuracy (For the nonbelievers)

This is @ 50 yards while I was zeroing my scope. Tight grouping has out shot my other .22's so I traded them....lol and Im an ok marksman at best.... Id like to hear other peoples opinions on this.(federal bulk 550ammo pack)---------(New Post 01/21/12) Just went to an Indoor range too cold to go to my favorite outdoor range, here are 6 targets @ 25 yards I labeled them with the ammo used and round count per target, lets here your opinions about them. From left to right top to bottom. left one is 10 rounds cci mini mags next one to the right 10 rounds cci mini mag the rest are 25 rounds federal bulk per target.....

Tacticaledge, nice grouping. I find I can keep them tight with my M&P 15/22 but I have to sit and slow down my shooting. I can improve with an aftermarket trigger but I don't mind the Combat trigger for a combat rifle. Even with a 3" to 4" spread at 50yds, that is still good for combat.

I'm looking into a Spike Tactical trigger or some other vendor that brings it down to 5.5 lbs instead of the 8lbs trigger pull. Or maybe a Timney, CMC or Geissele... still on the fence....

Thank you Aceman58. Ive heard the spikes for low dollars works great I might give it a try I'm in limbo on it.

great shootin, but if you want to get even more precise for SUPER CHEAP look for a used marlin model 81. its a bolt action tube fed rifle. I picked mine up off the used rack at my local cabelas for maybe 80 bucks. my rifle was built between 1937-1939 (no serial number) all i did was throw a cheapo 4-12x40 simmons scope i had layin around on it and it shoots groups smaller than your picture at 100yds. any way awesome shootin tacticaledge

Have you actually measured the trigger pull with a trigger pull gauge? My DVW7XXX purchased in mid-December has a 5.5 pound pull out of the box, as measured on a Lyman digital gauge. That was the average of 10 pulls. The highest single pull was 5 lbs, 14 oz.

Thats about right mine has done the same or better depends on how well im seeing, wind, etc. Your gun probably shoots better than you do

I have done many times shooting to 100m (110yds), and with scope mp15-22 shoots regularly 6cm ( 2,3inch) groups with 10 shots with CCI Standart/ Lapua. Some bulk ammo are not so good. CCI Balser 4-5 inch groups/ 110yds/10 shots.

its not so much the bulk ammo isn't as good, its just not held to the same standards durring manufacturing. say you take 100 rounds from a bulk pack, 50 will have x amount of powder 30 will have xx amount and 20 will have xxx so to say. also when the bullets are plopped in a bulk pack they bang up against eachother screwin up concentricity

They seem to be pretty accurate guns. Mine at 40 yards will get a 2" group at most free handed.

believe it or not a $69.99 centerpoint from walmart its actually a decent scope for low dollars with mildots and lighted green or red recticle...

Like a previous poster commented...it comes down to your idea of "accurate". If your bragging about amazing groups yeah people are always going to have something go say but don't let that deter you. Just tell yourself every time that the next one will be better and keep practicing! The beautiful about shooting is it's a never-ending progression as long as you learn a little bit each time.

Next time maybe break up your targets a bit and instead of 50 shot groups(or whatever u usually shoot), try 5 shot groups at clean targets. That way you can see exactly what is happening each shot and relate more to how your breathing and trigger squeeze was on each pull...I guarantee it will pay off eventually and that group will be cut in half over time.

That being said, yes that is a good group and i doubt any naysayers would want to be on the other end of it

I usually take my time shootin, gettin better and better these two targets have about 100 rounds apeice at least in a 1.5 in hole not bad but I agree slow shot slow breathing means tighter groups, Ill gettim tighter

Accuracy is determined by the barrel and sighting system. *Consistency* is what you're seeing whet you shoot for groups, and the only thing (other than the shooter) that affects consistency is the cartridge. Match-grade ammo is more consistent, in terms of both bulet weight and powder charge. This makes it more expensive.

Federal bulk is about as inconsistent as it comes. Since your rifle handles bulk okay, try some Wolf Match Target, or some Lapua match grade stuff. You may be surprised.

One final note - before shooting for groups/accuracy from a clean .22 barrel, or when changing ammo, you should fir at least one round for every inch of barrel length to season the barrel to the new ammo's lube. Before shooting for groups/accuracy, I put 25-rounds of the selected ammo down my .22 barrels - even my M&P15-22.

M&P 15-22 Accuracy

Here's some recent shots at 25 yards. The right hand 3 are from my 10/22 with a Green Mountain barrel and a Vortex 4X scope. The bottom target was before adjusting the scope a little up. The left had 3 are from my M&P 15-22 with a Sightron 3-9 scope set at 4X. I don't know what caused the flyer on the lower left target. I do get them from time to time with any bulk ammunition. There are 10 rounds in all but the left upper two targets. The ammunition is Federal 525 pact copper plated hollow point. Both were rested on a sand bag. I love the M&P 15-22 for jack rabbits.

mine doesn't seem to care what kind of ammo goes through it.

i do want to get a barrel nut wrench to confirm its tight.
but i also didn't get my M&P to bench it. its my AR trainer for "out back" at the range since they don't allow rifle calibers.

this is my 10/22 that sees some bench time. but i also know what ammo it likes

my two favorite guns.

Now glockeyed's target looks similar to what I get out of my 15-22 as it is no tack driver unless the head of the tack is the size of a hockey puck. Granted the 15-22 is the most cool looking and fun to shoot 22rimfire rifle I own but my Ruger 10-22 is better and my Remington bolt action 541S will shoot better than both of them. The 541S almost seems unfair when it comes to shooting gophers where the 15-22 gives the gophers a real sporting chance. I don't doubt some of the great targets shown here but my 15-22 won't shoot those groups no matter what ammo and I have tried them all. If I bring a box of 50 for the 15-22 I can expect 20 gophers if I bring the 10-22 I can expect 30 gophers if I bring the 541S I can expect 45 gophers.
