About 12 years ago I bought an excellent condition 17-3 in a 2 piece box. I loved that gun but foolishly traded it towards a plastic pistol about 7 years ago. Regretted every day since. I found a 17-4 advertised as NIB. Couldn't resist. Met the older gentleman only to find it wasn't NIB, but in excellent condition. Has a little blue missing on the muzzle and other signs of being used. I couldn't let it pass me by though. I'm a little relieved it's not NIB, I won't feel so guilty shooting it. Box, docs and sealed tools.

To me shooter guns are like cars, someone else can bay for the privilege of driving them off the lot and putting a little wear on the upholstery if the price is right.

K22 are just to much fun to take out and shoot. My model 18 has so much holster wear and little spots on it many would back away, but I love that little gun more than my like new in the box model 27-2.

That is a nice and pretty gun congratulations ,and actually steelslavers new car analogy is a great way to look at guns ( wish I had thought of it maybe I'll use it somewhere else ) . Seriously I do t really collect or anything as I just don't have the self control to not shoot a great . I mean how could you own that firearm and keep it in a box in a safe and only hold it with gloves on you might as well be collecting stamps ,and steelslaver man if I just had half of your talent talk about custom yea I would have some and shoot the heck out of em lol.

Finding a 90-95% gun for shooting is about as good as it gets.........

I have a 85-90% pre 18 (1957 but no Model#) I got from a friend. Fitted out with Executioner's stags and an old Pachmayr T-grip it's perfect for day in Penn's Woods..

Rsweet...... that's why you end up with two of each..... one to shoot and a "backup" to look at!!!!!!

-4's are great guns, have 17, 18 and 48's in -4 and they are all excellent. If you are comfortable doing it you may want to pop the side plate and drop a little modern oil on the internals.

He also had 2 - model 48-4s he claimed were NIB. One 6" and one 8 3/8". I didn't see them. Never had an interest in 22 wmr

I once had an extensive old S&W revolver collection that got largely sold off when my son went to collage. The collection was a mix of new/unfired to 85% condition shooters. To be honest, I don't miss the NIB guns at all. I never really got to enjoy those nearly as much as the shooters.

Looks like you found a nice one that is very shootable. Go enjoy the heck out of it and hand it down to the grandkids when your done.
p.s. NEVER trade anything for a plastic pistol!

I too have never seen the advantage of a 22 mag over a 22lr. Yes a bit more power, but to me the step isn't big enough to make enough difference. In rifles there are way to many reloadable centerfire 22s to chose from for more oomph and anything I am would shoot with a small bore handgun I can kill with a 22lr with less damage. Rabbits, squirrels, eatable birds etc.

I know the 22 mag has its following, but they can have my share.

IMO the .22mag makes a lot of sense ....... in a rifle...... handgun not so much.

Also for me... In Pa. as a varmint round; shots are generally at 125yd or less... I love my CZ452 FS/mannlicher in .22 magnum..... shoots MOA or less off the bench 1-1.5 in the field (under the crosshairs). My favorite walking in Penn's Woods rifle

Congrats for your purchase;mine has been bought new(17-4)in the mid '70s and I've enjoyed it since then.I should have kept the count but it doubtlessly burped the little pills a few ten of thousand times.
3 years ago,my daughter started handgun shooting. She wanted my 17.I told her:''you really like the little thing a lot heh!''She answered positively.I told her:''me too.Buy your own''
That's what she did(used 17-3 TT,TH).
Now we are 2 model 17 lovers in the family!

You guys just send all those dirty rotten .22WMR's to me here in Colorado and I will see that they are disposed of properly. I will even reimburse you for shipping.
