My 1917 is completely light grey parkerized.

There is no serial # on the barrel flat.

The barrel is marked UNITRD STATES PROPERTY

The gun functions perfectly, very accurate.

I'm told it's a WWII rebuild, and, that's why it's parked.

and that they had replaced the barrel during rebuild, that's why there is no serial # on the barrel flat.

Does this sound all right?

TIA

Ditto, plus somewhere on the gun there may be the Arsenal's stamp/symbol that did the rebuild. Could be Springfield, Augusta, benicia, etc if the work was done in a US Arsenal.

AA = Augusta Arsenal

Hi All, You guys are knowledgable! I'd like to take advantage of that by asking about an S&W M1917 #1493xx on butt, cylinder, back of crane and back of extractor. However the under side of the barrel is marked with #152945. There is a small eagle head S6 mark on the left frame, just above the trigger guard curve toward the grip. Rebuilt by SA? If so, any idea of rebuild date? Weapon is not parked and bluing is about 80% USP mark is on underside of barrel as usual. Thanks! Ray

Hi ToolTech, Thanks for the link! I have saved it for future reference. Regards, Ray
