A friend is asking for a value of a 1948-1952 (from serial #) 6" Hand Ejector 38 spl.

No box. Looks to have been shot very little, bluing covers 100%, the thinnest trace around cyl, but the bluing almost looks a little matte. Not a modern mirror finish.

Could somebody please help with a value?

Thank you.

6" Hand Ejector 38 spl

1948-1952 (from serial #)

It's a bit hard to tell what model it is without photos or the serial number. If the serial number starts with the letter K it would denote a very different revolver than if it starts with a C. A fixed sight model would carry a very different price than one with an adjustable rear sight. From what you have told us, it could be either one.

Beyond that, most folks here won't venture a price range without seeing photos so they can assess the condition themselves. Post some if you can.

As stated above. Most S&W revolvers from the postwar era had a matte blued finish, not bright blued, except on special order.

That’s a Military & Police model (later designated Model 10). The 6” version is a little less common and will bring a small premium in the right market. Condition and originality will determine the rest.

Welcome back to the Forum! Your friend has a blued 6" .38 HE M&P, which is not that rare or particularly valuable. Sight unseen, I'd value it at about $500. I'm more of an N-frame guy, but I saw this minty 6" nickel .38 M&P with MOP stocks at a local gun store years ago and couldn't pass it up for $350 OTD. Mine (C117638) was manufactured late 1949-early 1950. I would value mine, with a slight premium for nickel, at around $750.
