First: Does anyone own a Performance Model 627 snub nose? I can't find them anywhere! And really would like to handle one/get opinions on them, CC maybe?

Second: I would love to get myself a 686+ with a 2.5' barrel, then a 686+ with a 3' barrel, to go along with my 4' to complete the set. Does anyone have that set up? I would love to see pictures!! Or any other complete barrel size set? (if they make them)

I can't help with the 627 snub, never seen one either. But I have a 3-inch 686, and if I could only have one revolver, this would be the one. I've been a S&W guy for 35 years, but this one beats them all. Amazing DA trigger, good balance, fun to shoot, and more accurate than I've been in 20 years. I wore out a 4" model back in the 90's, 46,000 rounds of HOT ammo was more than it needed, and I sold it into retirement. I think another one would be a good addition.

You DO know they make them in 6-inch trim as well, right? ;)

I do! But I wouldn't ever go bigger than 4, call me crazy. Thanks for sharing this! Right now while I'm poor (in school) I've substituted my 3" 686+ for a Ruger Sp101 3" and I love it! But nothing like that beauty you've got there. Someday I'll be able to get the whole line up 2.5 to 4! Thats when I'll know I've made it.

Good Lord, 46,000 hot loads ?

Were you in firearms training, or what ?

I would expect a bit of end shake, at that point.

I wasn't doing training at that point, but I was shooting competitively in the local police leagues, and my FTO had impressed on me to always practice with full-power ammo. I was a new handloader, and did as I was told, some of those loads would make a lawyer faint! The gun went back to S&W twice for re-timing twice before I sold it, I was shooting several times a week and pounding it pretty good. I don't abuse my S&W 357's that way now........I keep a GP-100 around for that!

I'm not a big fan of longer barrels on revolvers, but if I ever see a fair price on a 5" 686, it's coming home with me!

Oh trust me, this Sp101 isn't going anywhere. I got the 3 inch barrel and she purrs like a kitten.

I have 2 of the 2 5/8" model 627s and two of the 2 5/8" model 657s. I have been shooting and carrying them for 14 years now

Absolutely fantastic revolvers. Well made, accurate, great triggers and they hold their value

I have both of the guns in question and am very fond of both. I searched long for a pre-lock 627, but finally broke down and bought the IL model, removed the lock and installed "the plug". The 686-5+ is 3" and has night sites and a bobbed DAO hammer. It is pictured here second from bottom along with my other 686s:
