2 questions on the new M63-5 kit gun

Ive decided against the Victory and semi autos and headed right back to revolvers. So a few questions on the new model 63 .
How does it group at 15 or 25 yards bench rested ?Any optional other grips for the round butt J frame?
I had an M34 and an M63 the no dash. The M34 I shouldn't have sold as it was very accurate for me. The 63 wasn't as accurate and sometimes hard to push the ejector out after say 75 rounds of fire. Also hated the red insert front sight and the very narrow square rear sight notch as there was very little air on each side with the front blade in there. So does the new 63 address any of this? How much more accurate is the model 63 with 5" barrel? I don't know why they just didn't stick with the 4" .

On a good day I have gotten 2" groups with Federal classics out of my 3" . As far as the 5" model goes the two inches of sight radius will help , but as with most rimfire you'll have to find it's preference in ammo .

Didn't know that S&W was making the 63 in five inch again. Have you seen some for sale? As to your question, I have a five inch 63-4 which I like although I don't know that I see any significant difference in accuracy. Theoretically I suppose the longer sight radius should make a difference but I've never really compared it against my four inch 63. Bought the five inch because I'd never seen one before but wouldn't go out of my way to find another from an improved accuracy perspective. I will add a three inch one of these days just to have one. Grip Selection

Hello cvarcher, The Target S&W produced stocks made to fit the "J" Frame will fit either the square or the round butt frames and should make your revolver feel just right in your hands.
No experience so no answer for the accuracy question, hope you are surprised plesantly if you decide to get one and please give a range report !

It's not really a medium range gun to fire from a rest, but 2" groups sound pretty good to me at that distance.

The 63-5 has a green fiber optic (aka plastic tube) front sight. You may like it or hate it.

That would be the model 63-4, no longer in production. With 2" more sight radius and muzzle heaviness its practical accuracy (meaning humans shooting it offhand) is probably better than a 3". From a solid rest they may be just about equal.

As everybody knows 22's can be very picky about the ammo they like. I have a model 63-5 that absolutely loves Remington golden bullets... I was never a fan of these bullets but my 63 and my M&P 22 compact both love them. The 63 will do .50 group at 10 yard from a rest.. I haven't shot it at 25 yards from a rest but off hand at 25 I've taken rabbits with it.

I picked up a new 63 in 3" just last year. To be honest, I find it difficult to shoot accurately due to it's small size. ( IF you read around the net, you'll find I'm not alone.) Don't get me wrong, I can get minute of pop can out of it at 10-12 yards but not much better. My larger framed 617 (or any number of my semi auto .22's ), will give me walnut sized groups at the same distance.
That said, I do like my model 63 allot for backyard duties. It's well built and nicely finished. The FO front sight is a plus for these old eyes too. I just don't rely on it when accuracy (and not size) is the main concern.

I have the new 63 (two of them) and the Victory. The Victory is much more accurate. Not even close.
