.22 LR Ammo

CCI Minimag is my first choice, but has seen occasional availability issues. Sometimes it doesn't suit the particular gun.

I made the mistake of learning that most of the .22s I have need a certain brand to run best hit closest to POA. I usually test five or six different flavors for each gun. Example photos.

CCI is your best bet.
Back in the day, I don't ever recall having failures to fire with 22 long rifle.
But lately, I have some just about every time I go out to shoot,
Lately I mostly shoot smaller handguns. The probable weaker firing pin hit vs. the wham bam, thank you ma'am,
Of the rifles I shot as a Lad may be a factor.
But after you consider all of that, CCI comes out on top and some others don't.
Bottom line don't go there- Cabela Herter 22.
Cheapie almost as good as CCI?

I prefer CCI and Federal .

I recently bought a bulk 222 pack of Winchester Super - X 22 LR power-point , limited edition ... they are packed in a retro looking old school package - yellow , red and black ...
The loaded ammo looks terrible , bent bullets / cases ... some cases don't want to chamber ... some chamber ...dented cases ...
the quality Look's Poor ,,, I have a Ruger Wrangler to shoot them in ... I'm not putting them in my S&W semi-auto's .
Winchester used to make good ammo ... something Happened !

CCI or Federal ... that's the Ticket !

I'll agree on Winchester ammo being c**p these days. Most of my every day shooting is with CCI SV or MiniMags and Aguila Super Extra. The Aguila is more reliable than the CCI, which is disappointing. For serious work, I go to SK/Lapua.

CCI mini mag hollow points. They are the most reliable and will function in more rimfires than any other brand I have shot. Back in the day I killed my first deer with them.

I have not shot .22 RF in many years. Considering purchasing some .22 ammo to have on hand.
In todays market what is a good dependable factory offering ?
Depends on your definition of dependable. Not speaking of bullet expansion but speaking of the round going off when you pull the trigger in the past the more expensive high end ammo the $22.00 a box stuff was often very reliable but not so much anymore. Because of the high demand for .22 ammo quality control has suffered even with the high end ammo with one very famous target brand in the $18 a box range had a very bad run of ammo with many misfires back a year or so ago. I know I bought some of it.

Having said all that SK ammo is a good value for the money and a big step up from the bargain basement Discount Store Ammo. Naturally SK costs more than discount ammo.
