.22 LR Shortage Is Over - NO WAY ! !

Looks like the rimfire panic is officially over around here.

Sportsman Warehouse had a large display of CCI Minimags today. $7.99 for a 100 box, and $22 for a 300pk. Folks would stop and look... then walk away empty handed. I did too.

I just got a brick of Fed 525 for $19.98 at Dick's. (2 actually, wife got one also)

That is getting back to right - - - about a month ago I got an ammo box with 2000 rounds for $122.00 at Dicks and I thought that was a buy!

Went to my LGS today and the 22 section was filled to the brim with CCI 100 packs, 300 packs and 500 packs. They also had swamp people 22LR. Average price was about 7-8 cents/round with no limits.

The store was very busy, but there wasn't a crazed rush for the 22LR and they've had the shelves full every morning for weeks now.

Some stores have the distributor connections to get it and some don't.

Well, at least somewhere it sounds like its getting back to normal.

I live in Central West Coast Florida, and 22 LR ammunition is harder to find now than it was for the first seven months of 2014. At least once every two or three weeks, a few of the Walmarts in my area would get some bulk in. Haven't had any in in almost three months, and I check availability every night for 10 stores with the Walmart App, which is 95% accurate. Once in a while they get a few 50 or 100 round boxes in, but it is too expensive to drive all over for that quantity, especially with Walmarts 3 box limit. Same for the local gun shops, and what little they get in is 50 round boxes priced at 15 cents or more a round. Shortage is not over here in FL.

IT'S NOT OVER IN THE NORTH EAST EITHER, BOB……

It seems the .22LR shortage is recovering buts it's still very regional to say the least. Here in the Charlotte NC area most of the LGS have it, Gander Mountain has it and another sporting goods chain is stocked to the top of the shelves granted with a lot of Aguila but also has Federal bulk and CCI most of the time.

Last week at an LGS that I frequent I found Rem. 525 rd. boxes of .22LR Golden Bullets for $44.99/box. I passed due to previous less than satisfactory experiences w/ the GB's. They had 1,400 rd. bucket of the same ammo for $139/bucket. I passed for the same reason. The other night at Cabela's I found Win. Super-X .22 LR copper plated HP's available w/ free shipping. With tax, five bricks came to $188 total... about $ .0755/rd. That is about the very best price on any .22 LR ammunition I've found in a long time. In my area there is not any .22 LR ammo at any stores such as Wal-Mart, ACE, etc.

SCORE ! CCI Mini Mags HP/RN $7.00 a box at Wall Mart 12-21-14. Scored 6 boxes, 3 for me and 3 for the wifey. ;)

No .22lr in south east Florida. There are 5 WM and several gun shops in a 20 mile radius of my house and none of them have any .22lr ammo.

It's interesting how regional the shortage is becoming. Here in the Charlotte NC area every Gander, Academy Sports and gun store have .22lr in some form. I am now seeing bricks of ammo on shelves now. One LGS even is running ads on the radio for .22LR ammo.

am seeing it somewhat consistently in south-central Pennsylvania. Federal, CCI, and American Eagle seem to be on the shelves where I haunt. Some places still have higher prices and 'limits' on the purchase, but $35.00 per brick can be found. People are still snatching it up. Gun show prices are obscene.

I'm brand new to shooting and this ammo thing blows my mind. Here you really have to be one of those older retired and hoarding types with nothing better to do than show up at Wal-mart every morning around 7am to get cheap .22 LR in bulk or smaller boxes. Several of them take it and sell it in their own stores for more than double the price but I think that is slowly ending. The Academy here usually has some 50 round boxes at the service desk up front but the bulk is swiftly grabbed by the types I just mentioned. Its easier there because the regulars know the truck delivery dates and are standing in front of the store 30 minutes before opening time. Its sad really.

The gun stores usually have some Norma Tac-22 but they mostly go pick it up at Midsouth Shooters (which is located a couple of miles from my house and lately seems to always have it) and then sell it at a a $0.60 per box (50 rounds) markup. So.....I bypass the gun stores and go straight to Midsouth as long as they have it. A co-worker of mine who is part-time also works full-time at Midsouth during the day so I can just ask him about 22LR availability.

Even though I'm new to this I do know that $5.40 for a box of 50 rounds of Norma is still super high but its cheaper than buying it online and paying shipping and cheaper than paying $5.99/box at the local gun stores. The first day I stopped in to buy some I asked the guy at the counter (who I have dealt with regularly through my job) how many boxes I could buy because I was expecting there to be a limit. He said "I could bring a pallet of it out to your truck if you want me to." LOL! He even told me how many boxes they had in stock at that time (which was allot!) but that amount usually would be finished in a weeks time. That very same day I saw the owner of one of the local gun stores in there buying up quite a bit of bulk boxes.

Made the rounds today. Bass Pro, nothing (OK, they had bird shot). Academy, only high end Aquila and Remington target rounds at $19 / 50 rounds. WM, nothing. WM has even changed the shelf layout to give the .22 space to knives and multi-tools.

On my trip here, usual places. 2xGM, nothing. Academy, they had 10 (TEN) boxes of a HP CCI I had never seen before. Bought 2 / 100 round boxes @ $8 per.

It has not improved. There was a burst of a few cartons of bulk a few weeks ago, but it ended as quickly as it started.

If the new trend for plinking .22LR ammo is more than 7 cents per round U can count me out! I will trade my two .22LR pistols (keep my s&w 15-22) and forget about the whole thing. Life is too short.

LGS just took in two nice Ruger bolt actions for consignment. One a .17 and the other a .22 Mag . Owner didn't want them anymore because he was tired of looking but not finding any ammo for them.
