From rats at the dump to shooting your hunting buddy to slow him down in bear country.

.22s rule.

I love all of mine. :D:D:D

Put me down in the auto camp. Couple model 60s, couple 10/22s. I've also got bolt and lever 22s but shoot them a lot less recreationally, and more for pest control using 22cbs.

I used to own a couple bolt action .22's but have gone fully into 10/22's since I started building them.

Buddy of mine just dumped $1k into a Sako bolt action .22 and surprisingly enough, my built 10/22's are more accurate for less money.

I consider myself fortunate to have learned marksmanship fundamentals at 9 yrs of age in a smallbore junior program many years ago.
Safety, fundamentals of marksmanship, responsibility and discipline were just a few of the benefits, not to mention profound respect for the lethality of even one shot from the little old .22.
Even though the 22 LR is an economical cartridge, when you're a kid money did not come easily. You learned to control yourself and make each shot count.
We started in prone position with single shot Remingtons. Eventually, you worked up to kneeling, sitting and standing, maybe with a nice repeater like a Winchester 52 or an Anschütz.

It's a free country and we all have our reasons for choosing the guns we have. I get it that blasting away with a 10/22 can be fun, but I personally prefer to still make each shot count.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but I think we'd be a lot better off as a society if we chose to expose all young people to a more disciplined use of firearms, rather than just appealing to instant gratification. An accurate single shot .22 is just the ticket.

Was on the High School and College Rifle Teams...... so generally put me in the Bolt action camp. Over the past decade I've become very fond of the CZ line of rimfire rifles.

That said I do have a couple of 10-22s Internationals/full stock guns and a S&W 15-22 for cheap training.

We can now hunt small game in Pa. with semi-autos so the 10-22s may see some more field/walking in Penn's Woods use.

I have a tricked out 10/22. Shoots very well and is a lot of fun.
Two years ago I bought a Ruger American in 17 HMR. The 10/22 has not been out of the safe since.
I like the 17 cartridge but the main draw is the bolt action. I tend to burn far more ammo with the 10/22. The bolt is slower and a lot more deliberate.

This is like asking which kid is your favorite. The Ruger 10/22 can be a lot of fun to plink with - as much as a lever or bolt action. For training inexperienced folks, the bolt action or single shot rifle comes to mind. Target shooting, I like the lever action. Clearing away an army of desperado tin cans, the semiautomatic. Sometimes you just need a lever action. It is all what you like or want at the time.

I have three at this time. A Winchester 61 pump from 1948, and a 52 target from 1933. And the new to Me BL22. The two Winchesters are very accurate. I've had Weatherby XXII's for decades and some were accurate and some were not. Can't stand 10-22's. Had walther, Kimber, Anschutz, and more than enough of the others. All were fun to shoot. There is a 22 - 17 rimfire match at the Club shot at 50 and 100 yards. Most of the Guys use CZ bolt guns. Interesting to watch Them play with the torque screwdrivers to get the best accuracy. Funny how 1 pound of torque can change that.
