22A question

Buddy of mine shoots one. He likes it alot and it seems to be pretty accurate. I know he has an occasional ftf. It wouldn't be my first choice for a 22 semi. Buy one and try it out, you can always trade it off if it's not what you want.

IMHO they are a pretty good gun for the money. Not a match gun but a fine plinker. You can get good used ones pretty inexpensively too.

Bought a 22A about 5 years ago. I added a 7" barrel about 3 years ago. This has been a very reliable and quite accurate pistol. I did have a problem with the firing pin at about 9k rounds. I emailed S&W asking if it would be better to spend the extra $5 and replace the whole block or just the parts. Their response was "free shipping, send to us" I did and 4 weeks later it came back fixed.

Best 10 round group at 15 yards (<0.75") I've fired unsupported has been with the 22A with the 7" barrel.

I have Rugers and Brownings. The 22A shoots as well as those. Which one is better? Well, billions upon billions of electrons have been sacrificed in that discussion and I guess trillions more are lining up to die in the discussion.

Labdad, I just got my first 22a yesterday. I shot about 1000 rounds through range guns before I decided to buy one. I tried the Beretta Neos and Browning Buckmark as well, but for the price you can't beat the 22a.
Speaking of price, Cabella's has the base 22a on sale in March for $199. Gander Mtn. has the bull barrel version on sale for $249.
Have fun

Ive had my 22a for quite awhile now and love it, Ive put about 3000 rounds though it so far and its very accurate. It seems to have a little more recoil when compared to other .22's which makes accuracy go down just a tad but once you get used to it, its very accurate. I use the cheapo federal ammo and it works great. When the gun was breaking in, I had occasional failure to feeds or failure to ejects but once the gun loosened up after about 800 rounds, all that ceased. Very reliable, high quality, VERY easy to strip and clean. Holds its finish great as well. The one and only thing Im disapointed in is the sights, sometimes they are hard to see being that they are all black

Have had mine for about a year and a half. It is the one gun that must always come with me to the range. It is fun, accurate, and cheap to shoot. Get yourself one before the prices go up.

I love mine-not ammo fussy except Remington
I did break a firing pin at about the 20,000 mark but got a new one easy and it's a cinch to change
I am 100% Happy with it

I have one and really like it, although it can be a little picky on ammo at times. This is actually my third one...the others kept getting traded for something I just had to have at the time. I'm planning to keep this one :p

Have had mine for about a year, and have something over 1K run through it,
with an exceptionally low misfire rate. As stated above, very fun gun to fire, and
accurate with Iron sights.

I dabbed a bit of orange fingernail polish my daughter got at the dollar store
on the front site, and it helps a lot, and is cheaper than Tritiums sites.

It is the perfect companion to the S&W M&P15-22 I am picking up tonight!

Great for the Money

I've had mine for a week. Just ran 200 rounds through it without a FTF or FTE! The 1st 50 were CCI mini-mags. After that, Federal Bulk. Not one problem although a little prep work was done. I took it apart and cleaned it (not that it was dirty), polished the feed ramp with MAAS and very light oiling on contact points. Funny, after all the bad things I've read the gun should perform so nicely! I did find the iron sights off quite a bit but that was easily remedied. The 22a is quite accurate and IMHO has a much better trigger pull than my wife's NEOS (although the NEOS is very accurate, too). I just put a TRUGLO Red-Dot on it so we'll see how that works out. All in all, for $199 at CABELA'S you can't beat it!;)

I'd like to get one of those myself! I've looked at them at the store and out of all the Mfgr's that are making tactical 22's, the M&P15-22 seems to be the best. Hope you do a write-up on it.....!

Went to the range yesterday and put another couple hundred rounds through my 22A without any incident what so ever. Using a dope bag, the pistol put all ten rounds almost in the same hole. Entire hole was no larger than a nickel. Great pistol, and a lot of fun to shoot. Target was placed on or about 20 feet.

I'm not that good, but I have fun trying!!:D

I couldn't resist a 22A to use along side my 15-22, Cabela's had it on sale for $199, I went to Gander mtn and they priced matched it. Now I just gotta wait 42 hours 22 minutes and 4 seconds to go pick it up. Wow, bought 2 S&W .22's in a week! We need a 22A picture thread- I've seen all kinds of optics and paint jobs done on them.

I picked My new 22a up tonite. I really think the gun is a bargain. Trigger looks cheaply made as does the safety button. Other than that it looks solid. It came with a spent round in an envelope signed by an inspector. And 2 extra recoil teflon squares. This one has a serial # of UCN**** and was test fired by the factory on 12-22-10. So I'm thinking it's a nice fresh gun.

Stuck Casings

Went to the range yesterday. Had better luck the time before. Was using Remington loads and out of 100 rounds, probably 12 were No-Fires and of those 12, half of 'em had to be pried out of the pistol. My (emphasis on my) 22a does not like Remington. Will go back to Federal bulk on Saturday and see how that works. Also, the nylon Recoil Spacer is about shot. Spoke with S&W and they said that will have quite an effect on how the gun operates. So, I would guess that the moral to that story would be to find a load that has enough oomph to cycle the pistol but not too heavy a of one that destroys the spacer prematurely (I guess that's kind of obvious). The guy I talked with was saying that, in his opinion, each of these 22a's and a1's have their own personality. Some will eat anything and some are more picky......I found that amusing......Kinda like Harley Davidson-you could have 50 of whatever model lined up and every one will be a little different...;)
