I was looking over at gunparts corp and they had 3 inch Stainless barrels that are supposed to fit model 64s. The barrel is obviously to be used with a shroud, they show a shroud that is for the Lady Smith (under the parts for the Lady Smith).

This shroud is marked .357. Does the fact that the model 64 is .38 Spec. present a problem fitting this barrel?

This all depends on what version of 64 you have.

If you have an older Model 64 that had a one-piece barrel, these shrouds and liners won't work since the shroud has to have a special frame for the shroud to interlock with.

If you have a newer model that uses the two piece system, the only question is whether the .357 barrel may not have a long enough shank to allow proper adjustment for the barrel/cylinder gap.

I'm not "up" on the later S&W's but some .38 revolvers have a shorter cylinder and a barrel that has a longer shank. The .357 models had longer cylinders and shorter shanks on the barrel.

"Assuming" that S&W standardized the 64 and 65 to use the same length cylinder and barrel shank, you should be able to have this mix of barrel and shroud fitted.

Note that these new shroud type models require a special barrel wrench to install and torque the barrel. Too many expedient barrel installation tools can ruin the barrel.
