$30 gun belt?

Nope, it can't be any good, or tactikewl for only 30 bucks.(Sarcasm)

30 Dollar Gun Belt | High Caliber Gun Belts. Period. – Thirty Dollar Gun Belt

Anyone try this belt? Got good reviews around the web...even some YouTube videos on it. Seems like a really good deal.

It's an unlined belt (images) so at roughly 1/4" thick the blank would be slit from a side or back that is at least 16 ounce 6.5 mm; which is unlikely. The Wicket & Craig I use runs 5.5 mm max so less than 1/4".

Such a very thick vegetable tanned leather could be, if of a very firm temper, a gorgeous belt. I've been known to make Threepersons belts of 14 ounce single thickness.

Yet -- with the cost of leather, waste/scrap, labour, hardware, taxes, light bills, machinery -- how would it be done?

Red, their website states "close to 1/4" thick":

"Gun belts need to be thick and sturdy. We use 14-15 ounce leather which is as close to 1/4" thick as possible. This belt carries all sized guns and holsters even the heaviest of guns."

I may try one, just to see. I dabble in leatherwork and know that I can't build a decent belt for $30, unless it's a pure production operating and relying on purely volume. That's probably what they're doing. Buying the leather in quantity, cutting out multiple straps, and offering minimal options to keep the cost down.

I'd have to see it personally, to even begin to believe it's anywhere near the trademarked "top notch quality".
They even have "free shipping for anything over 50 dollars". For a 30 dollar belt. (I know, you could buy two, but if you really wanted quality you'd be buying a better belt.)

No dog in the fight, but if you have been pricing belts this one has to be only half as good as they claim to be well worth the money! Just a blank from Tandy in 1 1/2" is some $22, and that was over a year ago when I last looked!

I doubt they are buying blanks. They are probably buying sides, getting as many strips as the can, and then selling the rest for scraps.

Of course the most common attitude in the gun world is, if it costs more it is better. This goes for guns as well as equipment.

I haven't paid over $60 for any belt, and that was a BW ranger style duty belt. I use two belts for 1 1/2 inch, both under $10, both work exceptionally well. One is a Carhart heavy duty off of ebay, about the same weight as a duty garrison belt. Other is a heavy waxed cotton belt that is as stiff as any belt twice it's thickness. But I was raised to be frugal.

State of Illinois issued us standard thickness garrison belts for trouser. These were plenty strong enough to carry the model 39 on the garrison belt in a pancake holster.

See what departments issue for plain clothes carry, betting they are not 3 ply with a 4th steel ply for carry. But why stop at 3 ply or 4 ply, why not 6 ply.

"Oh Ashley, Ashley, I love you..."

Now, regarding the belts... I've never had any luck with "single ply" gun belts and once I found the Kore Essentials gun belts, I never looked for another.

Just got one in and the belt does indeed measure 1/4 inch thick (almost exactly, at .245"-.255" measured with calipers a few places the length of the belt).

At $30 to my door (first-time buyers get a free shipping code), this belt is hard to beat. First impression is definitely positive.

I use a DeSantis holster that cost $35. I just bought my second one. When I bought the first one in 2013/14 the salesman said he uses them and gets about 5 years worth of use before they start to fall apart to the point on needing replacement. My old one was starting to loose it's shape a little aro the area where the two ends connect however, my belt loop ripped off so I was forced to get a new one

I believe I'll try one then. Does it appear substantial enough for a full-size gun/holster to not flop around if it's worn OWB?

It's worth a try. Let us know how the belt holds up. That's the key, if you can get a few years use, its well worth the money! My daily belt I wear , with and without a gun is a "Ross Leather" belt made locally. Online they sell for 3 times the price of the op's belt. Of course I get them a little cheaper being local but still if you get good wear out of it I will gladly buy 2 next time for the price of my 1 Ross belt.

I am pretty happy with my wilderness belt but I do like a nice leather. Only problem is I find most leather gun belts too thick. I love that the wilderness is stiff but thin.

I purchased one of these $30 belts on eBay, and I am thoroughly satisfied. I have used mine with both an OWB belt slide for my 439, and IWB with my 36-6. I find it durable.

The only fault that I can identify, is that they sometimes run a little short (but it could be that I am in denial). My initial order was for a 46", which wouldn't fit. I exchanged it for a 48", and it was perfect. The exchange turn around took about 10 days. I would definitely do business with these folks again!

I haven't worn it yet but it's quite substantial and I don't foresee there being any problems with regards to holster carry. I mean, it's pretty straightforward- it's a simple thick leather belt. I ordered the "creased" version figuring that'll make it slightly stiffer than the un-tooled version.

Can you show an up close photo, please, of this "creasing"? I can't tell from their website what this creasing means.
