357 180 gr. XTP and MP 300 data needed

Hi all. I am hoping someone may have data for this combination or at least a recommended starting load. I have contacted both Hornady and Alliant to no avail. I'll be using a Model 28 HP 4" for these loads and would love to collect a deer or hog with such a load. None of my manuals or any of the manufacturer sites I've found have such data. Any help will be appreciated.

I dont know about mp 300 but i have had great success using 15.1 grains of lil gun (not recommending it just info). Its worked great so far and no pressure signs. Out of my pro series 627. Also does wonders from my marlin 357

Thanks for the response badguybuster. That load would likely be well into +P territory which is one reason I have been searching for MP 300 data as it should provide optimum speed at a lower pressure I believe.

The Hodgdon site has some loads for the 180 Nosler. I have used their data for the low end of H110 with good results. Start low and work up as usual

Para, I have a Model 28 , 4 inch in blue. Just got it back from S&W had some work done. I love it one of my favorites, out of a box of 50 hit the siloette target 47 hits from 25 to 30 yards out using 110 gr. jacket hollow points. Takes just about anything you put thru it and then some, real workhorse and cleaned up good. Have a set of finger groove Excaliber Walnut grips on it, looks sharp.

Since I Shoot a .357 Max I kinda keep my eye out for load data and not to long ago I ran across some on the Cast Bullett ***. web site. Check there and someone will have some data for the .357 mag with 300MP, Can't hurt to ask? The people there are (almost) as nice as they are here (Ha,Ha).

Power Pistol is a great power for many applications. I would personally stay away from Power Pistol for heavy 357 Mag loads. I have had pressure signs with it using loads that were under Alliant max load data. 2400, 296, H110, and other slower powders are far better for 357 Mag. I have never used MP300 but, is even slower, so I think you may on the right track with it.

Alliant 300MP works for me with 158 XTP's in my .357 mag. Powder of Choice hands down!

Same here. I tried it with the Hornady 158 gr XTP and I don't see myself going back to 2400 or H110 anytime soon.

I will have to load some 158's to try with it. Had really good results in the 22 Hornet with MP 300 today.

I finally found something in an old copy of Handloader # 277 where Brian Pearce suggested using 16grs. as a starting load and topping out at 17.5 grs. as an absolute max. I hate only having one source but it's all I have for now.

That sounds like a good starting point. At least it is consistent with what my gut tells me: That 17.0 to 17.2 is a practical maximum for the powder underneath a 180 gr bullet. I hope your post your results.
