Just cleaning up some of the safe dwellers. I bought this a while ago and always wondered if the grips could be original? I believe the seller said they were but I'm not that knowledgable if they (Presentations) were available at that time? They are non relieved which would make sense for the time frame. Regardless,it is a beauty and so is the box!

Very nice. Letter !! A while ago I happened into a set of Smooth non-relieved K targets. I had to spend a lot of money on a big lot of stocks to get them but I have been able to sell off all the riff-raff to more than cover the cost.

The original magnas are numbered to the K22 that now wears the targets but I do like the new configuration.

But how many times have you bought a Smith just to get the stocks it's wearing? I've lucked into 2 1917's that were wearing pre-war N Magnas. Both sellers had no idea.

That was part of my reasoning behind getting this custom .17HMR Model 17. Stocks will find their way on to my K-38 when I finally take possession later this week, and this gun will get a set of aftermarket Padauk targets.

If I was a betting man (which I'm not)
I'd bet those stocks did not come on that gun,
By the "Proud" fs pins id guess your pre 27 is from around 1952-53 ish, which puts it a little before the football cut which I generally attribute to the introduction of the 44 Magnum and Combat Magnum in 55 ish.

On a side note Id bet that it shipped with magnas and no red ramp but anything is possible with SW.
Hard to tell from the pics but it looks like those stocks have been refinished with true oil or something as well.

B500:

Those are a beautiful set of smooth non-relieved presentation stocks that were available in the 1950s. They mostly shipped on special order guns, (engraved, or two-tone "pintos", or some other special order). Most of my 1950s factory engraved guns came with the non-relieved smooth presentation stocks. Here are some examples:

Your particular gun "could" have shipped with those beautiful stocks, but I would be surprised if it did. I too think that they look like they have been nicely refinished at some point in their life.

When it comes to purchasing a gun for the stocks, I have done that many times. Most recently I did it to get a set of N-Frame non-relieved smooth presentation stocks that had been modified... a bit.:D

... not sure where the stocks will eventually live, but for now, I like them on the gun I purchased them on.:)

NOTE: If you ever decide that you want to part with those grips, please let me know, as I am always in "need" of another set.:D:)
