Hello,
Attached is a photo of my newly acquired S&W 38 Safety, 3 1/4inch barrel revolver. It appears unfired and the S/N is 246146. By luck I called S&W and briefly spoke with Roy and he said it was built in the 1920's.
I was prepared to buy a replica S&W top break but discovered this real McCoy by chance.
I'll have to reload some low power 38 S&W loads or buy some Ten-X to test fire. Before firing I want my local gunsmith to inspect and lubricate.
I'm jazzed by this find...

Looks like a very nice example of this model. It should safely shoot any available .38 S&W ammo. as all said ammo. is loaded to safe pressures for these older top break revolvers. You mention that you were looking for a "replica?" As far as I know, there are no replica S&W Safety Hammerless models. Did you mean an non-S&W made .38 Hammerless revolvers, such as were made by Iver Johnson Arms Co., or Forehand & Wadsworth, or other top break makers of the late 19th century & early 20th century?
