It is now exactly 45 days since my last 3rd Gen acquisition... and I'm starting to get the shakes. In fact, I'm getting a lot of the same symptoms as you hear about drug addicts getting.

My doctor believes I might have 3rd Gen Withdrawal Syndrome. :o Oh Lordy Lordy!

Here is the deal: I'm trying my very best to conserve limited funds so that someday if and when the opportunity comes to jump on a 4506-1 here in highly-restricted Massachusetts, I will be in a position to do so. But that has meant taking a pass on a number of other desirable 3rd Gens that I would normally have been very interested in. :o

Well, yesterday I noticed that a number of 3rd Gens that I had been tracking suddenly disappeared entirely off the radar screen. What the devil was that all about? Is someone buying up all the 3rd Gens left in Massachusetts? And I am missing out? Needless to say, nothing helped at that point. :o I fell into a deep depression and started that weird withdrawal shaking thang in the fetal position right next to my not-entirely-full gun safe. :(

I sure hope to heaven that I am doing the right thing waiting for a 4506-1 to appear. I think that's the only thing that is going to cure me. :) But the odds are long and watching those other nifty 3rd Gens go to other buyers is just tearing me apart. I keep asking myself: "Am I doing the right thing or not"???

Pray for me fellow 3rd Gen aficionados! Stay strong and try hard not to let this happen to you. :D

There have been a number of 3rd gen guns popping up in the PRM. None that I've been interested in, though. Some Value Line guns as well.

No one seems to be interested in my 3904, at least not at a price I'm willing to take.

I saw a kind of beat up 469 at a LGS yesterday, but the 2nd gen guns don't hold much interest for me.

Living in Mass. has to be a PITA ............

...... trying to buy out of a small puddle vs the national pool of guns for sale.

Seems like you need to buy what you can find when you can find it........ maybe use some of it as "bait" in "Want to trade" offers.......

These threads make me glad I bought most of my 3rd generation stuff "CHEAP" in the 1990-2010 window ....... when no one in W. Pa. seemed to want them!!!!! LOL

It makes me want to cry and bang my head on the desk when I see some of the guns other people can buy from places like Buds. I'm told that many FFLs in MA will transfer in older revolvers because it's the semi autos (especially standard capacity ones) that the state is intent on regulating.

OTOH, I know dealers who will absolutely not do a transfer of any gun, long or short, from another state. The law and the penalties apply to the dealers only, not the buyers or sellers. The dealers get substantial risk and nothing more than the transfer fee. No wonder many of them want nothing to do with it.

Which is why 3rd gen and other semi older semi autos are hard to find and expensive.

You're doing exactly the wrong thing. The only way to make the 4506 appear is to make it feel unwanted by buying the other 3rd Gens.
Exactly! Its kind of like the "If you build it, they will come" logic; If you buy them, more will appear.:D
Are you guys sure about that? It sounds a little far-fetched! :D

On the other hand, I have wondered about a certain shop that seems to only list one or two 3rd Gens at a time... and not long after they sell, one or two others mysteriously appear. Kinda like magic. :p

The problem is it's never a 4506-1. :(

Yeah, a pretty good supply of used value line guns lately for sure... but I have vowed not to start collecting value line 3rd Gens unless and until I am all set with the premium guns first (and I still have a very long way to go). :( The one exception to that would be a Model 910S. I'm totally in love with the Model 910S. :D

Have you listed your 3904 for sale here? That should be a very desirable gun if it's in good shape. :)

IMHO.....if you see a 915 grab it....... they are "value line" guns in name only.....Novack used to use them as the basis for custom guns

As someone else on the forum recently noted: Too bad S&W never made a Model 915S, 'cause if they did I'd be all over it like white on rice!!! :D In the case of 3rd Gens, I'm a stainless guy all the way... although one recent find almost took me over to the dark side. :p

So, when do I get the big bucks for my 6946? There's gotta be a desperate fellow MA guy/gal somewhere out there. [emoji6]
I'm desperate! :) Tell us more! :) Is it listed for sale here on the forum?

TTSH, the solution is both simple and maddening.
Buy any nice 4506-1.
Just be sure you believe you paid too much!

Excellent and inexpensive 4506-1 pistols will suddenly come from everywhere.

John
There is one on a certain website right now going for short money. :o Not the greatest condition in the world, but it would sure hold me over until a nicer one comes along. :D

Too bad for me... MASSACHUSETTS.

I have been there done that re: a 4506-1......when you have that itch...there is nothing gonna scratch it till you find one ;)

I've been wanting a 39, a 3904/3906, and a 4506.
What I ended up finding was a 6906 and a 4566.
I jumped on them.(DUH!)
Still haven't found the others I want.
Missed out on a very nice nickel 39. Made me sick.

Yes, 3GWS is a terrible affliction for which there is no known cure.
Best of luck.

I know. :( That's the problem. :o

I see you've got the doctor's office lingo down pat! ;) Guess I'm at least fortunate that my doctor was able to figure out the correct diagnosis in short order... even if he couldn't help me find the "cure"! :D

What's worse is when you collect both revolvers AND 3rd Gen's!

TTSH,

I think if I was collecting in your restrictive environment, Id set aside the money for the 4506, then keep buying the other guns that you are interested in.

Then the 4506 will pop up when you least expect it and you will be in a position to buy it while still picking up the others that you want.
