4 wolf cross dumped in my area

I've been seeing these three on camera and across my hunt property off and on for months now. Even on game camera urinating directly under a deer feeder.

Animal control told me not to let them limp away.

It's not as easy as you might think on coordinating being there with rifle, in position at the time they pass through. I've already spent many hours sitting in a stand, dog food/scraps placed at 100 yards...

If they really are wolf hybrids they need to be eliminated/removed before they breed with anything else running around feral.

In Texas the usual solution would be to hunt them down and kill them.

Ok you knew it was coming, somebody will bring up Wolf Hybrid guns. I can tell you what NOT to use. I was hunting pheasant, quail, and turkey earlier this year in Kansas and a big coyote was running to cross in front of me at about 15 yards. I gave him my left barrel Improved Cylinder 20 gauge with 7-1/2 shot with no effect, I had a perfect sight picture on his shoulder with my right barrel and cut loose with a 3" Magnum #4 shot full choke, and I saw the pellets fluff the fur right behind his shoulder and he twisted his head toward it. He never broke stride and jumped a barb wire fence then hit full speed for 250 yards until he was out of sight. When some people recommend bird shot for home defense guns I have to shake my head.

They look like beautiful dogs to me with the Alaskan Husky curly tail. I'd be inclined to live-trap them and have animal control make the call if they can be turned into a pet before I shot one.

We had a high content wolf-dog and I can tell you as a fact that you can't take those hybrids in the pic and make pets out of them. They have reverted back to their baser instincts. To make a pet out of one takes a heck of a lot of time and effort and you have to start at a very early age with them. They are extremely good companions if raised right, but even then it all depends on the individual dog to be able to adjust to living as a good pet; some just can't make the transition from wildness to being a pet. That is part of the problem with these hybrids in that it takes someone to intensely interact with them to make them a good pet. Without the intense interaction, they revert to their primal instincts and are very timid, yet have a very high prey drive. Your average ankle biter punt dog can be an easy meal for a wolf-dog.

As for the dogs in the pic, they look to have some wolf in them to me, as well as some kind of husky type breed.

Here's a pic of the one we had, Kira. She was a bit higher than 75% timber wolf, with some GSD and maybe a little husky in her. Unlike those, she was an ambassador dog for the breed and was well adjusted and didn't go around killing other animals. But there were still situations you just couldn't put her in or she would totally freak out. BTW, she weighed around 105-110 lbs in this pic; a big girl.

Yes, and no. Some dogs have predilections bred into them that could cause trouble ( high prey drive, animal aggressiveness, guarding instinct etc.)

Those dogs need special handling by experienced owners. Good breed clubs warn off folks that might be interested in the breed but don't have the experience, or ability, to care for them properly.

I agree, they look very similar to Siberian or Alaskan Huskies and if they are killing other dogs they should be killed but they are very pretty animals and I would research and separate the rumors from the facts before pulling the trigger. Dogs are killed all the time by coyotes and other dogs and little dogs are carried away by owls or other predators so I'd make sure it was not just somebody heard it from a friend who heard it from another friend that we had "blood thirsty wolf hybrids" loose in the neighborhood.

In my ever so humble opinion, the OP's pic is of Siberians...or a variation thereof, and that neighborhood panic and social media messaging turned them into wolf hybrids.

I actually take this whole "report" of Wolf Hybrids loose in Honey Grove, Texas with a grain of salt. "Someone" dumped the animals in an area. Someone else "heard about it". Someone else posted a rant on some sort of social media about it...and we all know what a great source for facts social media is, don't we?

I did an Internet search for this story, and the only mention of it that I found is a link to this thread on this very forum. If anyone else has a valid link to a factual story about this, please post it. No, I don't want to see any horsepucky from Facebook or Twitter or Instagram and so on and so forth.

One sad fact is that breeding and selling Wolf Hybrids seems to be a nice little money making cottage industry in Texas. Not exactly something to brag about. Matter of fact, it's a money-making business nationwide. I've seen ads advertising "show quality" Wolf Hybrid puppies for $1K and up. There isn't any such thing as a "show quality" Wolf Hybrid.

The more I look at it, the more I think this story's just a bunch of hokum that's got a bunch of folks' bowels in an uproar. I feel sorry for any animals involved.

And to top it all off, when you look at the OP's social media screen shot, the only reference to dogs being killed said it wasnt the dogs in the picture! Yea, I agree...the only thing running wild in Honey Grove is imagination.

I took this here picture out the back window of my little Subaru Crosstrek this past Saturday up around Weaverville. Sorry if it's a mite out of focus I was in a hurry and had to twist way around in the driver's seat but I think it's Bigfoot. I believe he'd been goin' through some trash barrels or somethin'.

I just got off the phone with the Sheriff department <Sheriff is a friend of mine> and they are still roaming the area. They haven't been able to corner them yet. I ask if it was just a rumor and the dispatcher said <No they are still roaming the area.>

My last dog was a female Wolf/Husky hybrid that was given to my wife when it was 5-6 weeks old. She was beautiful with yellow eyes. Sasha was handled like any other puppy, she was a lap dog until she just got too big. She was one of the smartest dogs I've ever run into, but she definitely retained certain Wolf traits. When she greeted you, she would lick and nibble at the same time, which scared the **** out of some people because she did inadvertently pinch at times. Sasha was very protective of my wife and I, especially me and she was fine around other people when we were present. She was brought into a house with 2 full grown cats with 2 more added later and she was never a threat to any of the cats. One of the male cats would grab her tail, bury his face in it and just roll around with her tail and she would never do anything except take her nose and push him away. Sasha was leash trained and was better on a leash than my full blooded Siberian Husky. Like most Huskies, she was an escape artists and it took a line of pet grade electric fence along the top of the regular fence to keep her in the yard. I had to put spring snap catches on the gates because she learned how to open the gate latches with her nose. When she would get out, there was no catching her, but she would give up the game if I didn't chase her and she would come back to the house and sit at the front door waiting to be let in. With that being said, we got very lucky with her temperment, she was basically hand raised and I have no doubt that if she had been abandoned early on, or abused by someone she would have reverted back to more wild ways or could have easily been aggressive. Wish I had a way to include pictures, but none on this computer.

It’s been a while but I had a full blooded Siberian husky.
Two different occasions neighbors called DNR on me first time they came out they asked for his paperwork, I told him he was pure blooded Husky. (Showed him the paperwork I had)
DNR said that the neighbors claimed that I had a wolf I asked him if my husky did have wolf in him what would happen he said that if I didn’t have the special permit through the State of Michigan and liability insurance for the hybrid he would have to take him because in Michigan you cannot have a hybred/Wolf Or Wolf as a pet without the State permit and insurance.

The photos on face book are from this area. The game warden took the first photo then others took photos. The game warren could have shot them but said they were protected. They had killed where they came from and dumped here. Hard to tell a story until the rest happens.The photos taken on face book are around the Gate 2 road at Camp Maxey close to the Red River. This is cattle country and they don't need to breed here.
