Looking for suggestions for a good .41 mag load for hog/deer hunting. Have shot hogs point blank in traps with 210 grain hollow point loads from Georgia Arms and they seem to expand well and are relatively inexpensive. Just wondering what loads other hunters have used with good results.

Do not currently hand load. Just looking for a good manufactured hunting round right now.

Since you don't reload don't shell out lots of of money for the jacketed factory stuff when this will handle your needs Target .41 Magnum 215 gr. LSWC- Per 50
No it ain't a full power mag loading but that 215gr bullet @ 1150fps (manufacturers specs) will easily do the deed and save you money to boot.

That actually sounds pretty good to me. I think I will see what my M57 4" thinks of it. The price seems reasonable for 41 mag, new brass and all.

Appalachian Ammunition

I just took delivery of my order of their 41 magnum, 215gr, LSWC and .357 magnum 125gr XTP-HP (Emancipator). This ammo looks really good. I'm taking it to the range tomorrow to see how it shoots through my M57 and various S&W .357 mag revolvers. I will report the results when I return. I am especially anxious to see how the .41 mag shoots. Unfortunately I won't be able to speak to the effectiveness in hunting, only accuracy.

Looking forward to reading your range report. I'm particularly looking forward to hear how the .41 ammo works for you.

Before I started handloading, both my 1894S and my Ruger BH loved the Remington 210gr JSP. They are fairly stout and it is what I used when I was in Florida. More than is required for deer, but I felt it was adequate for pigs (although I never shot one). I think it is a great "off the shelf" pig round that you could buy at Bass Pro Shop. Actually, it was the only round I could find in the stores at the time, so I was lucky it worked well in my guns.

I bought my Model 57 6" in 1971 and we have been training each other since. For the first thirty five years the ammo of choice was Rem JSP. This accounted for a few deer and just one heck of a lot of hogs.

I learned to not like hollow point bullets in the .41 magnum. I want a hole on both sides. The hollow point will kill but I am getting too old for much blood trailing.

Now that I reload my bullet of choice is a Space Coast cast SWC 210 gr over 18.5 grains of H 110. This is a very effective deer and hog killer.

thanks for the link, I hadn't seen that before..I handload for mine and am quite happy with the results, but it is nice to see factory "police load" ammo available....

Hope they use a good hard-cast bullet. The old Remington and Winchester 210gr lead SWC loads were terrible barrel leaders.

Thanks for the link, apparently the major factories don't make the "police" load any more.

Your welcome folks, glad to help out fellow .41 mag supporters. As I understand it the company uses MCB for their cast bullet loads, or at least for this one they do.

Georgia Arms also has a good selection of .41 Magnum ammo including a hardcast 210 Police Load....

For hogs, especially big hogs, if I had to use factory ammo it would be the Federal 250 CastCore. Clocked from a 4" M57 it was going 1080 fps...fairly mild in the recoil department but a deep penetrator.

Retired W4 any update on that appalachain ammo yet?

Sorry about the delay on the range report. The Appalachian .41 magnum 215gr LSWC, which is labeled "Target/All Purpose" performed very well with my 4" 57. I'd say accuracy was very good (for me being the shooter), clean, fairly mild recoil for a .41 mag. round, no problems with ejection. I was using a two handed stance. I should have brought my rest for a better evaluation. Bottom line was very good accuracy. Their .357 was even more accurate, but that might have been the gun, or me.

BTW, the Appalachian .41 out shot the GA Arms .41 Cowboy load, and was much cleaner.
