432 UC Anyone having good luck

Is anyone having good luck with the new .32 revolver?
Everything I’m reading is not good.
Is anyone getting it and all fires great?
I bought one and not made it to the range yet but was getting ready to order a second now backed off.

Before you buy a second ... you might just want to test out the First .

I am a 38 special believer but can't help but notice the negative comments ... Take that first one to the Range and ... Choot It !

I recently had the chance to take my newly purchased 632-UC to the range. The gun initially had to go back to S&W for a dead front sight, and the turnaround time for the repair was about a month.

It performed wonderfully at the range. No hiccups, no light strikes, etc, over the course of about 150 rounds. The action was excellent, the sights were easy to pick up, the chamfered cylinder charge holes made it much easier to load wadcutters, etc. I came away very impressed with 32 H&R magnum - this might be the first J-frame that I actually enjoy shooting for extended periods of time. And 32 Long is fairly available and even lighter recoiling.

I have posted about this issue before. I purchased a fairly early example of the 432UC and it has been fine. I think I have fired about 100rds. through it with no issues. I purchased the Lost River poly coated rounds for it. They are $50 per box so I haven't shot a lot of them yet. I read all the development info on the gun before purchasing. I think it's one of the best thought out snubbies ever produced.

Last week, my LGS ordered the 432UC from their distributor and it should arrive sometime this week. My EDC is a S&W 637 and though I love this revolver a lot, the typical Airweight shortcomings are annoying. If the 432UC runs flawlessly, then I intend to carry it as my EDC and keep the S&W 637 in the safe. I cannot overstate how excited I am about the .32 H&R magnum caliber. It promises similar terminal ballistic performance with less recoil than the .38 Special.

I've been following the discussions about the S&W Ultimate Carry fairly closely, and despite some reports here and elsewhere that there have been issues with dead tritium front sights and light primer strikes, decided to buy one anyway. I do have faith that Smith and Wesson will fix whatever could be wrong with someones' firearm. I do think any manufacturer has produced lemons. In general, I do believe it is true that more people are likely to go online to post about bad experiences than they are with good experiences.

A couple of things I hope for with the S&W Ultimate Carry revolver:

1. Address the issues: I want Smith and Wesson to put a stop to the kinds of issues people are reporting. They need to make sure that every single firearm leaving the factory has active tritium sights. They need to figure out how common light primer strikes are and then increase the power of the hammer spring ever so slightly.


2. Sell a ton of these: May Smith and Wesson sell thousands of these! My hope is that so many are sold that the model becomes available at all the different gun shops.


3. Demand for .32 H&R to grow: My hope is that the demand for this caliber grows so that more manufacturers make it, bringing the cost down.

I purchased a 432UC several months ago. Only fired about 70 rounds through her but I was impressed enough that I traded in a bunch of guns I no longer wanted for two 632 UCs. I haven’t fired either of those yet but one had to be sent back immediately because the cylinder didn’t open smoothly and I could see the locking bolt below the front of the barrel was not machined the same as it was on my other two. I get that its super frustrating to have to send a brand new gun back to the factory for something that should have been picked up by quality control...but its nothing that would put me off buying one of these. As you can see...I bought three. I have become convinced 32 H&R Magnum IS the perfect J frame round, and if history is any indicator it may not stay in the line up very long....and once they are gone the prices will likely skyrocket. I bought three because I’m giving one to my wife...and I want to have one for each of my daughters when I move to the great beyond assuming by then they are interested in firearms. I do believe its the PERFECT J frame...even if it takes a trip back to the factory to make it so...

My 432 has been perfect and is my favorite J Frame. My son’s 632 had to go back and was replaced by the factory. It seems to be good early on

Several yrs ago I spent a lot of money on a 340PD for pocket carry and have had it w/me ever since. Shooting magnum rounds was not for me but 110 grain +P seemed just about right. I’ll continue to follow the new .32UC w/interest, but doubt this old dog will change.

Keep in mind that with any product, most happy buyers aren't going online to praise them, so there is a negativity bias.

A lot of the early UC revolvers had bad tritium front sights and bad yokes.

The former was supposedly due to the standard factory guys using hammers to fit the sights and breaking the vials, where tritium sight revolvers were previously relegated to the Performance Center lines.

The latter is a bit more concerning; it suggests that a bunch of regular 642/442 are also out there with bad yokes.

My early 642UC had both problems, as did my father's early 632UC. S&W replaced the yoke and front sight on mine, but they unfortunately replaced the front sight with another compromised one and I'm waiting for S&W to send me another sight.

My father just got his 632UC back, and there's a good chance that it'll dethrone his LCR 38 as his carry revolver. His 100gr H&R Mag handloads are considerably milder to shoot than the well regarded .38 Special defensive loads like Winchester Ranger Bonded 130gr +P.

My 432 has been perfect so far. I can no longer tolerate the .38spe recoil in a J frame so the 32 H&R magnum made sense. I do reload so ammo is not an issue for me.
I did replace the grips with the old standard "boot grips" and the trigger is not as good as my 442 that has been worked on and had several thousand rounds thru it.

No dramas with my 632UC. The grips got swapped with some rubber S&W stocks to match my "old" 432.

my 432UC has been perfect.
i swapped the grips for some pachs, which i like more.
they're a little bigger, but i still like them.
the sight picture is far better and it is easier to shoot well than my LCRx 327, which has now gone down the road.

I'm following the .22 and .32 EDC trend too. But as long as .38 Special works for me I am staying with it. Currently I am using 125 grain +P for carry and 130 grain PMC for practice. Eventually I may go with 148 grain Target Wadcutters for carry and practice.

Mine's worked without issue, but don't have a ton of rounds through it. I carry it every day as a back-up gun. And if I have an issue, I'll send it to S&W to get fixed.

If I ever need it for SD, it only has to get through 12 rounds. As that's all the ammo I carry for it.

There's a 38 special version of the UC too. When I ordered my 432 they got a 38 in by mistake. It's still there in the display case. Most folks don't know about them

My 432 UC had to go back due to tight cylinder chambers & an undersized frame lug. In the meantime, I bought a 632 UC. I know, I'm a glutton for punishment. The 632 UC got a fluff & buff plus a set of Wolff reduced power springs and functions flawlessly. S&W had to replace the 432's frame, necessitating it being sent to my FFL. S&W reimbursed me for those costs. I get the "new" 432 UC back from the factory and it has a better trigger than my 632 UC w/the fluff & buff & Wolff RP springs!! I now have a brace of .32 H&R Magnum J frames & both function flawlessly. YMMV
