I ran across a 617 that was one of a matched set
that was produced by S&W in 1993.
There were supposedly only 200 sets made then.

It has 1993 matched set inscribed on the right side of the barrel and 200 sets on the receiver.
It is in really nice condition with nice target wood grips.

I can get this for about $500 shipped...
My question is that a good price considering
its not in a set anymore and it has the inscriptions.

Or maybe its worth a little more..I don't know!

Need help quick ready to pull the trigger!!!
Excuse the play on words.

I originaly thought it was one of a
matched pair of 617's, but it turns out that the set
consisted of a few different models.

I don't know how many different guns were in the set,
but I'm sure a S&W expert can fill that information in.

The more I thought about it...and even though it
was a nice 617, it still had the engraving on it,
so I decided to take pass on this one.

BTW, that's the Cabela's in Dundee Michigan. At that price it's still a bargain, currently 617's that clean are fetching 600 dollars or more. As for that etching, it could be removed without much effort, if I didn't already have a 6 inch 617 I'd think about taking a drive over there this weekend.

Pretty but...

I would have passed on that one myself.I'd pay another hundred for a plain one without the commemorative or special nonsense.

I had that 617 bought, but after I got off the phone I took another look at the pictures in a larger format and I saw the inscriptions on it.

When I called the sales guy back and asked him about it...he said it looked to be laser engraved.
No way your getting that all off.

To me If you had the whole set it would maybe make sense, but not by itself!

Probably why it was only $499.95

Man, I'm just glad I spotted it before they shipped it out!

They had the set 686 still there

They had the set, Called this morning they sold the 617 but they still have the matching 686. The 686 is still there for $500 buck also. I asked why they didn't try to sell it as a set and the guy just replied that's not the way they were listed. Well I guess that makes the other sets worth just a little more always hate to see any sets broken up
