Judging by the .500 Target hammer my bet is the original trigger was a .500 Target trigger and the previous owner narrowed and polished it with a dremel.

Bet that smoothed one feels alot better than the wide grooved TT,
keep your feelers out as flash chromed factory S&W triggers pop up for sale quite often and in the $30 to $50 range.
 
Nice gun, and good deal. I don't care for that trigger, either. The "X" in the yoke cut out is nothing unusual. I wouldn't be concerned. BTW, that gun has an adjustable trigger over-travel stop.
 
From the looks of the stop notches, that gun has hardly been fired. If you are a double action shooter, you might like the trigger in actual use. If you plan to shoot single action mostly, I agree that an original type trigger may suit you better and be like it was shipped.
