I know the "sheen" is somewhat subjective to the observer, but a newly acquired 624 certainly has a gloss level well beyond the one I've had for 15 years, and it's not a usage issue.
If a previous owner "shined it up", it is an excellent job, and all surfaces are very uniform. The gun appears minimally fired, and in such overall great shape, I doubt anyone was hiding something.
Maybe he liked shiny? Any come from the factory with a shine?

Not sure if pics will do it justice, but I may try a side-by-side with the other 624.

I have never seen a M-624 come from the factory with a shiny finish. I have had 8 or 10 of them myself and eyeball every one I see for sale.

It is not an uncommon thing for owners of stainless steel S&W handgun to polish the finish to a high gloss shine. All you need is some spare time, soft rags and a polishing paste such as Happich's or Mequire's.
