Anyone have problems with sight/barrel alignment? Front sight on one of my 629's appears to be 5degrees or more to left -looking down barrel-. affecting impact drasticly, more prevalent than before. Is this a common problem, and does S&W address such problems?

Thanks,
Ron

629-1 Sight Alignment Issues

The 629-1 does not have a pinned barrel. Therefore it's possible to get loose. I'm assuming that the barrel has turned... as I cannot imagine the sights moving any other way. I would stop shooting it immdeiately and if it was purchased within the S&W warranty (original owner between 1989 - present) send it to S&W for repair. If not, then ask around for a good pistol smith, and get that barrel right back, and perhaps have it pinned.

I own one, but have not shot full house loads through it, nor has it been fired a lot. I would imagine either of these could cause the problem to appear. Mine has a smooth trigger. Wide hammer, and does not have recessed chambers either. But it shoots really well.

Hope this helps ya

I have a 686 with 6" barrel, I had it for several years before noticeing that the barrel is at least 1-2 degrees pointing to the left you can sight down the two ribbed surfaces on the frame and the barrel and see it go off on the barrel. I suspect that the front of the frame where the barrel mates to is out of square forcing the barrel to point to the left. I emailed S&W about this and they never answered back. I was a dealer when I got this for my own use and it was not bent by me it came from them that way. Jeff

Thanks you guys, I contacted S&W today they will take care of it.

629-1 6" update

Ended up sending 629 in to be repaired, Barrel was loose from firing, cost was $86.00 to repair. Sight aliegnment is now perfect, well worth the money. although a tad shorter.
