629 club

Just got this one today for trade in services I did for an older gentleman. He's getting me the presentation case this afternoon, as he forgot to include it when we settled up.

Okay, now I gotta throw one in...'specially since it's "new to me".

Bought it earlier last month on my 21st birthday from work. Got a good deal on it, and it's one of my favorite N-Frames (not counting the ones my father gave me). Four inch, magnaported, 629-4. The serial number prefix puts it at Aug. 1994. It compliments my 6 inch 657 41 magnum nicely :)

629-5

This is my only 44 mag. It's a 629-5. Picked it up for $300 just after Christmas. First 44 I ever owned or shot and this gun is more accurate than I expected for a large caliber. This is a group I shot yesterday at 30 yards. I know that's not far but it was an indoor range. Great gun.

That's the deal of a lifetime,
$300.00, you've got to be kidding,
I'd be lucky to find a mossburg pump for that price

My co-worker bought it new in 99. He didn't want it anymore so he sold it to me. All legal including original bill of sale to him from store. I asked him several times if he wanted more but $300 was the price. The trigger was re-worked and it is smooth. I put the Hogue Coco Bolo grips on. The rubber Hogue grip was too small for my hand. Thanks for the compliment guys, only my second time shooting since I got out the Navy back in 78.

Your stocks look great, my -5 has a smooth trigger also, I think all of them came that way, that's some fine shooting for only going twice in the past 35 yrs, hate to see what you'd do all practiced up, what load were you shooting?

Ammo situation what it is, I ordered online for my range ammo. I bought 150 rounds of Ultramax 240 gr jhp, new. I bought that ammo because it was the first ammo that was available in 50 round boxes that was in stock. After I ordered it I read how terrible Ultramax was supposed to be. I must say that I disagree with the bad reviews. Ultramax consistently placed tight groups with the 100 rounds of it I fired. No smoke problem at the indoor range and no blackened hand. I had one box of Federal American Eagle 240 jhp and that ammo was no where near the consistency of the Ultramax. I won't be buying the Federal ammo again. And the 24 rounds of that ammo was shot last so I know it wasn't my shooting. I picked up a couple 20 round boxes locally of Speer 270 gr dcsp and one box of Hornady LEVERevolution FTX because that was all my local store had. Fired off 6 of each and the groups were great. Saving the rest of those.

i was trying to make a mountain gun 2 years before they came out -- this is what i ended up with!
629-1 magnaported , 11 deg cone, crowned, numbered cylinders, action at 3# s ,bead blasted and jeweled trigger/hammer

Great looking sixgun, would love to see some more photos, closeups of the work, how does it shoot?, I'm hoping to have them build one for me this year

Gentlemen,

An outstanding presentation of .44's here. If I may offer my own little contribution, here's a pic of my PC 629...

Bought this same gun. Took it to the range yesterday with 100 rounds of my reloads. Took me a little while to learn how to grip it so the recoil did not knock the snot out the web of my hand. The first two cylinders hurt because I was gripping too high.

I started letting the the grip fall just a bit so the round but was centered better in my palm. I shot one handed and let the recoil do what ever it wanted rather then trying to control it. I switched hands every cylinder and was just as acurate with either hand. I was hitting 8 x 12 paper consistently at 20 yards. I shoot this gun better then my Sp101 3".

Dilemma...when I was looking for a 629, I really wanted a 3" full lug barrel. Couldn't find one anywhere except for the Lew Horton models and I wasn't going to pay those type of prices. So I settled for the 629 PC with more modern style 2-5/8" barrel. Now I look on Gunbroker and 3 inchers are everywhere. Would you trade a 629 PC for a more classic 3" 629? I'm really considering it.

Guys, Thanks for posting all those beautiful .44 Magnums, both S&W and Ruger alike. I currently own 4, A model 29 with a 11-5/8" barrel was my first. With the idea they kicked a lot, I thought I should try one with a long barrel to absorb recoil. Besides falling for the looks. The next one I bought was a blue w/6" barrel for practical use and target shooting. I then spotted a Mountain Gun, 629 stainless, 3" barrel. And finally when Ruger offered a 50th Anniversary New Model Blackhawk, I just had to have one. I really envy you guys for being able to upload the best photos I enjoy looking at all day. I'll try to upload one of mine.[
