A new-to-me ex law enforcement Model 64-5 appears to be in great shape except for burrs on the cylinder at each stop notch. These burrs are pronounced on three cylinders, and starting on the remaining three. You can feel the raised burr with a fingernail and if you look inside of the notch can see peening in the shape of the cylinder stop. Do I just carefully remove these burrs or is there a more serious problem? The cylinder stop seems to have the same side play as another k frame I checked, and does not appear to have any rough surfaces.

Thanks for the info. Do you know what causes this? Is the cylinder slightly out of time? What are the long term effects of dressing the slots? This is the first time that Jerry Kuhnhausen and I have been inside the side plate, so pardon all my questions...

Good question. My theory on this is that the peening (mostly on SS guns, from what I've observed) is the result of lots of rapid DA shooting.
As the metal was already peened out of place, removing it has had no detrimental effects in my experience.
The Kuhnhausen book is really detailed. Don't try to absorb it all at once, your head might explode!
