642-1 11 years of wear and use (pics)

I bought this 642-1 New in November of 1997. I've carried it about daily either loose in a pocket, pocket holster, or Galco belt holster.

For the use it has seen, I think the wear is minimal. The grips have been replaced.

It is one of the 642-1's that is not stamped with "+P"

It isn't even broken in until the writing on the barrel is gone.

I have no idea. I've shot way more than a few handloads with 158 grain SWC's, probably less than a box of +P's, and probably 50-60 handloaded shot shells.

It has fired its fair share, but I don't keep round counts on my guns.

Your 642 looks great. I hope mine looks that good when it reaches the same age. I think blue guns look nice, but you can't beat stainless for long term wear. I have a 29 year old model 66 snubby that has seen regular service on three continents and still looks almost new.

Collectors always lament the wear on handguns, but I like to see evidence that the weapon was used rather than just stored. Of course as a kid, I liked well-worn baseball gloves.
