I would sell a body part to get back my 640.
Just my .02.
Frank.
Your .02 cents is just about the same as mine.

I might have to look in to getting one of those instead of a 640 or 342...![]()
How could you not love a j-frame snub? I found this new 642 II on the Talo site ...not to be confused with the 170 prefix Talo models.
The 'features' are basically:
* rubber/wood inlay grips
* cylinder cut for moon clips
* PC tuned action
* polished, smooth face trigger
* cylinder flutes and release latch polished
* kind of a bead blast finish? differs from a stock 642
Yes, it did remind me of the Wyatt, which is why they're in the photo.
Hoping to get it range-bound next week.

Beautiful gun! Does the new Talo II (sku 10186) have the internal lock? Obviously, yours doesn't - but every picture I've seen of it online has the lock. I contacted S&W, and 2 different CS reps told me that it doesn't have the lock, and never has. However, even the picture of it on their Facebook page has the lock. Very confusing...
Hey, there is nothing wrong with a drawer full of J-frames.....Why limit yourself?![]()
Thanks. And yes, I was also very confused about whether it had the IL. Promo photos clearly show it with the IL. Also, later feature lists did not mention moon clips, while earlier photos clearly pictured them.
Just knew I liked the gun and jumped on it.
My SKU 10186 did come cut for moon clips (3 clips included) and no IL.

Hello gnystrom,
Thank you for the quick reply.
I have a Beretta PX4 Storm Subcompact 9mm (26 oz) that is a little chunky (width) to carry. Basically looking for something a little easier to carry IWB. The J frames fit the bill. Just struggling between the 640 Pro (23 oz) and the 642 Talo (15 oz). It is a little difficult to make a decision as I would not be able to physically touch the 640 until after an internet purchase.
I totally agree about the "wow factor" for the 640 Pro. Did you get the 178044 with night sights? Seems they are hard to find. Bud's is out on the LE and retail side for a while.
It would be interesting to know what additional work needed to be done to 4 of the 5 five Performance Center revolvers you have.
Hey, partner! Welcome to the Forum. Please allow me to jump in on this older fun thread; you may have read me above. My take, from the standpoint of an LEO: you want the 642 TALO. No, you REALLY want the 642 TALO. IWB is fine, it is my preferred mode of carry. But it's winter and how do I reach my IWB piece under a sweater and outer coat/jacket? It's gotta go in my pocket and the 642 of whatever persuasion is built for pocket carry. When buying a new outer garment, I always check the depth of the side pockets for this reason.
Shame you dislike the 637 Wyatt because the logos turn you off. I own 2 Wyatts and the only thing wrong with them is that I do not yet own a 3rd. Very slick little carry pieces. I've moved on to the .357 M&P 340, but I'll never sell my 637s, 642s and 638. Too much history there. And in some very bad places...
As to modding a PC gun, I would do nothing. I'm not a spring changer. S&W has always made guns to suit the LE market. When it comes to J-frames, they haven't stopped.
Stay safe, partner. Getting uglier out there. Check your 6.

Old j threads never die.
As Kaaskop mentioned, go for the Talo. I too love my old trusty 642 and would never part with it. Buying today though, the small premium for a Talo/PC/PC tuned is a no-brainer. You get factory tuning, the slim trigger (in some models) and it's set to go out of the box. I wouldn't change a thing ...sometimes grips.
Oh, the 640. Excellent. I live in a tropical climate, so mostly pocket carry. That's the reason I stick with a lighter 1 7/8".
Just one guys opinion. Welcome, have fun shopping!
Jeff, I changed out the clip grip knock-offs on my Wyatts for several reasons:
1. I found the over-the-belt "shelf to be too short to hold the gun securely in the WB. For a few minutes maybe, not for hours of daily activity.
2. The gun is uncomfortable in the WB with these grips. A thin suede IWB clip pouch adds no bulk and allows comfy carry.
3. The grip is slippery in the hand.
4. Another poster reported recently (and I have found) the grip screw to loosen and allow the grips to come apart and the gun to slip in the hand. Worse, he reported the loose screw interfered with the DA mechanism under the grip. This is his experience, not mine.
Save your $, Jeff. My 2 Wyatt clip grips are sitting in the gun boxes. Check 6.
