I have a police trade 66-1 that has a recessed cylinder but not a pinned barrel. Are their many like this? john

I recently bought a 66-1 with a six inch barrel with a non pinned barrel and recessed cylinder. looks brand new, unused and came with its original box, paper work and cleaning tools, unopened. I understand that my serial # 111K### is 1981.

I also have a 4" that's like that. The -1 versions were the last of the P&R'd guns. My gun has a serial number that puts it about 1980-81, so I'd guess that the closer that you get to 1982 the chances of having a "clean up" gun is probably correct. No facts to back that up, but if you look at other models and manufacturers there quite a few like this. It doesn't pay to toss all of the parts into the scrap bin..

66-1.

I too have a 66-1. It's a 2 1/2" recessed, but not pinned. S/N 98K9XXX. I like it a lot. With or without the pin.

My 4" Model 66-1 has cylinder counter bore, but no pinned barrel - SN 113KXXX, placing it as 1981 manufacture. (This was one of 1,500 that were Va./SP 50-year commemoratives, delivered in April 1982.)

thanks for the reply's. anyone seen a 66-1 with pinned barrel and a non recessed cylinder? I like mine because of the longer cylinder let you load heavier bullets and crimp in the regular groove. john

The 66-1s with no pin or no recess are transitional guns before the 66-2, and are not uncommon late in the 66-1's production run from '77 to '82.

Are you saying that the -1 cylinder is longer than a -2? Naturally it will be longer by the width of the rim, but that doesn't affect the length of the chamber. Educate me please.

You are correct depending on your definition of "chamber length." The chamber length ahead of the rim remains the same, while the cylinder length will be shorter by the width of the cartridge rim on the -2.
