Had the trigger shoe removed from my 79 66-1. Went to a machine shop he drilled out stripped screws and there was lots of lok tite. It cleaned up good makes it like a new gun to me. Didn't cost much and something I wouldn't attempt myself.

And what you have now is probably the best all around factory configuration that S&W ever released, certainly within the K-frame format. Congratulations and enjoy!

Thank you kind sir I wish I could get a clear pic from my ipad it looks fuzzy and does no justice. Like I said it's like having a new gun it looks so much better

Now you gotta get rid of those speedloader cutout targets and get some proper football cutout targets. Otherwise ya gots a nice piece there! ;)

Since the Stocks are incorrect - Can I suggest a set of Smooth Targets for it?

Smooth Targets will look amazing on that gun.

While we're discussing the stocks, if you want the perfect experience with that 66-1, go "whole hog" and get a set of the factory issued finger grooved smooth combats. As my old buddies in Carolina used to say, "It just don't get no better than that!" :D The slight reddish color complements the stainless nicely and the feel is perfect. No, I'm not biased, just well informed.

I believe the stocks that are on it are correct, but I'm no expert lol. Someone will have a answer for you, some pretty well informed folks around here

I hope to come across a mdl. 66 one of these days.
Did the trigger shoe set-screws leave their little "track" ? Did you figure how to get rid of them ?

Speedloader cutouts in '79 were normal. You're good to go. ;)

Rog8732 the screws never contacted the trigger they were so short. Seems all that was holding the shoe on was lok tite. Not a
Blemish on the trigger. I have heard other instances where they marred the tigger. Little extra expense but I've found I really like this gun. Something about this 66-1 looks and shoots perfect

Isn't it great when everything works out? If the grips that are on it feel good in your hand, don't sweat it! Keep them! If they don't, find something different.
You need grips that are right for you, not somebody else. Enjoy your 66! Bob
