I'm planning on taking this newly acquired gun with me deer hunting this fall. I rifle hunt, would only grab the .357 for less than 25 yd, open shots, but felt I should practice some regardless. Took it to the range today, with Winchester 158 gr JSP Power Points. From a sitting position with my hands resting on wood(similar to sitting in a ladderstand with hands resting on the shooting rail) I shot two sub 2" six shot groups at 25 yds! That was better than I expected! I've never taken a deer with a handgun, but that gives me confidence that thus season could be the first! Gonna try it again with gloves on.

Yep, factory iron sights.

I will ask this: the factory sights have that orange plastic insert. Mine is obviously old, and is kinda dull. Do they sell replacements? If so, is UT an easy swap?

Hi,

The front sight in pinned in. You would have to drill a hole in a new site. A gunsmith can do this easily. The old orange inserts are an old solution for contrast. If you want much improved contrast go with a fiber optic front sight from Dawson Precision.

Dawson Precision S&W Pinned Fiber Optic Front Sights - Dawson Precision, Inc.

I bet your 686 would shoot under 2 inches at 50 yards from a rest. Sounds like you got a good one.

Good luck.
Dave
