I went to the local range yesterday to add a revolver to my Nevada CCW. For revolvers, one is the same as the rest, which makes no sense to me. For Auto's you have to qualify with what you'll be carrying. I rented a 686. Wow, I didn't even notice anything when shooting it. Now I just need to take my 442 and practice like hell before I feel comfortable enough to carry it.

Hmm. Florida ccw is not gun specific. There really should be some federal law that makes all of this state to state stuff moot. An ammendment that gives us all the right to keep and bare arms would work...oh wait. Nevermind.

Love your log in name btw. You a Laphroaig fan like me?

Yes, Laphroaig & Ardbeg. Everything both distilleries put out are fantastic in my opinion.

And, yes the law is pretty dumb. Qualify with a .22 and carry a .44 mag. Same thing. Qualify with a Kimber TLE... you better be carrying that and not a different Kimber.

I own both and they couldnt be more different. 15 ounces versus 42. Large square butt versus small round butt. 357s even feel powder puff out of the 686 when compared to shooting +p out of the 442.

For my new mexico ccw, i had to qualify with revo and auto in the highest caliber i am gonna carry. I borrowed a wilson combat cqb and model 625 so i could qualify in 45. The wilson was a bit overkill for shooting at 21 feet, but might as well make it easy!

Went out and bought a 1911 after shooting it!

Actually that Nevada law will be changed either on July 1 if AB282 is signed by the governor or October 1 if he doesn't sign AB282 as he signed another bill that removed the auto specific qualification.

I ended up renting a Ruger SP101 .38special for the qualification as the 442 wasn't going to get me to qualify. You do need to practice a lot with the 442.

In Texas you can only qualify with .32 or greater. If you qualify with a semi-auto you may also carry a revolver, but not the other way around. The Caliber that you qualify with has nothing to do with what you can carry.

"AB143 was signed by the Governor and becomes law October 1, 2011. This new bill makes the listing of the different pistols you can carry null and void. You will have the choice of qualifying with either a Revolver and Semi Auto Pistol or Both. The law changes that you have to qualify with every Semi Auto Pistol you wanted to carry. The new law that becomes effective 10/1/11 is below. Until that date if you apply or renew you still must list the semi auto pistols you will carry on your permit/license."

:)

Sheesh, now I'm dizzy....never knew some of ya'll had it that rough.

In Arizona, we qualify with whatever we want to shoot, then carry that or anything else we choose. I can't even remember what I used when I took my CCW class, years ago.

Yes AB143 will be law, but AB282 was passed by the legislature that also removed qualification for each semi carried as well as hopefully get the ATF to restore the CFP holder's Brady Bill exemption to the background check for each purchase. That bill goes into effect on July 1, if signed by the governor.

So either July 1 or October 1 will see the end to having to qualify on each semi.

packheat,

Be careful what you wish for. Do you really want the federal government involved in state laws regarding guns any more than they already are? I sure don't. If you want a state law changed, do it from within that state, don't ask the feds to impose their ideas on us.
